Job Description

You will lead a team of talented software engineers who work directly with product and engineering teams to constantly improve reliability across the Suite. You will be responsible for the overarching single pane of glass experience that provides observability, fault-tolerant architecture, performance metrics, and system maintenance capabilities. You will work across organizations and collaborate with internal partner teams, and build reports to upper management. You will provide strong leadership and nurture a DevOps team culture focused on quality and delivering value to customers. You will be responsible for building out the platform, tools, and processes to enable these goals.

The individual will be accountable for driving the following behaviors:

  • Hands-on approach to engineering – when we work at Motorola, we are all engineers who are excited about technology. No hiding behind spreadsheets.

  • Creating a culture of excitement around constant improvement – frequent integration and deployment through a robust pipeline, deep end-to-end testing with automation, and proactive notification of QA and production issues.

  • Kubernetes Orchestration - design and optimize Kubernetes orchestration environments for use in product development including product team guidance for items such as ingress/egress traffic, scalability, and seamless upgrades.

  • Observability/Monitoring - Implement commonality in SRE observability and monitoring in order to measure, maintain and improve SRE KPIs and reliability of our applications.

  • Chaos Engineering - Create a Chaos Engineering strategy for the organization and lead the teams to validate the resiliency of the applications and drive improvements.

  • Incident Management - Collaborate with Motorola Solutions Ops and Development teams to ensure our Incident Management process follows industry best practices.

Qualified Skills:

  • Experience coding and debugging in languages such as Java, C#, Angular

  • Experience developing cloud-based solutions, including working with CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with leading and growing teams with a DevOps culture mindset

  • Experience managing teams and coordinating projects across a global workforce

    working from different time zones

  • Knowledge and working experience developing REST-based APIs and implementing

    microservice principles and architectures

Desired Skills:

  • Experience developing applications for cloud-based architecture utilizing microservices and multi-tenant database architecture

  • Development or design experience with feature toggles, canary releases, or subscription management platforms

  • Demonstrated understanding and proficiency in application containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

  • Experienced in common DevOps methodologies and knowledgeable in tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, GitLab, etc.

  • Experience with test automation and continuous integration and deployment

  • Demonstrated proficiency in software development in a leadership capacity

  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile teams leveraging Scrum, Kanban, or other methodologies and/or understanding of Agile development concepts

Basic Requirements
  • 10+ years of Software Development experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field
