About the Job

Texas Instruments (TI) is looking for an experienced Facilities Chemical and Gas Engineer to join our World-Wide Facilities (WWF) Team. This engineer will be directly responsible for sustaining, design, installation and project management for chemical and gas systems to support a semiconductor wafer fab in North Texas. TI Facilities operates a variety of process and support chemical, gas, and high purity water systems. These systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment. The WWF team works closely with TI’s other facilities sustaining organizations and manufacturing teams to understand how the facilities utility systems impact the process quality, reliability, and safety as well as how to reduce consumption.

  • Sustaining:

    • Chemical/Gas Systems may include:

      • High purity acids/bases/solvents, distributed as either pumped or gas pressured

      • Ultra-pure gases including inert, flammable, corrosive, pyrophoric

      • Dispense equipment - Chemical Distribution Units, Valve Manifold Boxes, Gas Cabinets, Bulk Containers, Cryogenic Tanks, Gas Purifiers

    • De-ionized Water/Ultrapure Water Systems may include:

      • High purity water treatment for use in manufacturing

      • Process equipment including carbon beds, membranes, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet sterilization, ion exchange, ultrafiltration

    • Working knowledge of system components such as: distribution piping; diaphragm, magnetically driven/levitated, and pneumatic pumps; chemical and gas filters

    • Provide engineering support for system operations & maintenance, review system capacity vs. demand and assist with system troubleshooting

    • Knowledge of chemical compatibility for materials for process fluids and gases, as well as materials of construction needed for chemical, gas, and water systems to meet semiconductor high purity requirements and all code compliance requirements (IFC, IBC, NFPA, PSM/RMP etc.)

    • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance team to develop plans for maximizing operational and maintenance efficiency

    • Perform systems assessments, develop and implement improvement roadmap via capital and expense projects

    • Effectively manage system deliverables including points of delivery, utility parameters, alarm and warning setpoints, specification limits and notification methods

    • Development and maintenance of Piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams, standard operating procedures, sequence of operations for respective systems spell out acronyms as well

    • Work to integrate reliability focus and risk analysis into Systems Engineering job scope. This includes FMEAs, root cause analysis, design, commissioning and training.

  • Project Management:

    • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, management, internal customers, business partners, contractors and suppliers to ensure projects and systems are cost effective, within budget, meet the desired design criteria and schedule requirements.

    • Responsible for the engineering analysis, design, and installation oversight of distribution systems for chemicals and gas equipment and systems.

    • Project scopes will range from the installation of a single valve manifold box (VMB) up to the design and installation of a bulk-fed factory-wide distribution system.

    • Review construction management documentation such as submittals and requests for information.

    • Manage all project related financial information to ensure compliance to budget, including change notices, purchase orders, capital forecasts and invoicing.

    • Direct and execute project commissioning to ensure all chemical and gas systems equipment, components and infrastructure perform as designed.

    • Organize and plan design activities, create construction documents or manage external design teams in the execution of such deliverables.

    • Write scopes of work, bid request for proposals, specify and order material.

    • Complete projects safely and reliably with zero impact to customer manufacturing operations


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering degree

  • 3 years or more experience with Semiconductor Facilities and/or Chemical and Gas experience in areas such as designing, maintaining, or installing distribution piping, valve manifold boxes, gas cabinets, chemical supply pumping systems, hazardous and high purity chemicals and gases, or de-ionized / ultrapure water systems

  • Demonstrates leadership and project management skills, including organizational, time management and priority setting

  • Experience with gases and chemicals used in the semiconductor industry

  • Experience with industrial facilities

  • Experience with installation, construction, and management of capital projects

  • Certifications or training with specific semiconductor chemical and gas systems infrastructure is a plus

  • Collaborative and customer-focused approach.

  • Strong analytical skills for assessing problems, and developing corrective and preventive actions.

  • Ability to interface professionally and effectively with all levels of management; excellent people skills including leadership and influencing others.

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong safety leadership

  • Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, AutoCAD and similar software.
