About the Job

Texas Instruments (TI) is looking for an experienced Facilities Mechanical Engineer to join our World-Wide Facilities (WWF) Team. This engineer will be directly responsible for sustaining, design, installation, and project management for mechanical systems to support a semiconductor wafer fab in North Texas. TI Facilities operates a variety of process and HVAC mechanical systems. These systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment. The WWF team works closely with TI’s other facilities sustaining organizations and manufacturing teams to understand how the facilities utility systems impact the process quality, reliability, and safety as well as how to reduce consumption.

Responsibilities include:

  • Sustaining:
    • Sustaining engineering support for Mechanical System operations & maintenance, ownership of system capacity vs. demand and system troubleshooting.
    • Provide Facilities system engineering leadership to the site organizations in support of safety, reliability, quality, environmental, and cost objectives.
    • Collaborate with operations and maintenance team to develop plans for maximizing operational and maintenance efficiency.
    • Collaborate directly with the customer in the Fab to ensure installations and projects are completed safely and reliably with minimal to no impact to customer operations.
    • Systems assessment and improvement roadmap establishment and implementation; capital and expense projects execution in support of safety, reliability, quality, environmental and cost objectives.
    • Develop and implement programs targeted to improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness of mechanical systems. Non-Process Systems: HVAC (air systems, Fan Filter Units (FFUs) with ULPA filtration, DX, and exhaust systems), chilled and condenser water systems, cooling towers, chillers, hot water systems, fire protection systems. Process systems to include: DI Water, Industrial waste water, process cooling water, plant and house vacuum, and scrubbed and VOC exhaust.
    • Manage technical, administrative, financial, schedule aspects, strategic communications, and customer stakeholder relationships during the execution of various facilities projects.
    • Permitting and Building Code compliance related to mechanical systems and associated infrastructure.
    • Effectively manage system deliverables including points of delivery, utility parameters, specification limits and notification methods.
    • Work to integrate reliability focus and risk analysis into Systems Engineering job scope. This includes FMEAs, root cause analysis, cause mapping, design, commissioning and training.
    • Knowledge of hydraulic system calculations and flow modeling, psychrometric heat transfer calculations and modeling.
    • Knowledge of chemical compatibility for materials for fluids commonly used in facilities mechanical and process systems.
  • Project Management:
    • Team with other engineering disciplines, management, internal customers, and suppliers to ensure projects and systems are cost effective, within budget, meet the desired design criteria and schedule requirements.
    • Responsible for the engineering analysis, design, and installation oversight of distribution systems for chemicals and gas equipment and systems.
    • Oversee projects to meet design criteria, scope, budget and schedule.
    • Review construction management documentation such as submittals and requests for information.
    • Manage all project related financial information to ensure compliance to budget, including change notices, purchase orders, capital forecasts and invoicing.
    • Direct and execute project commissioning to ensure all chemical and gas systems equipment, components and infrastructure perform as designed.
    • Organize and plan design activities, create construction documents or manage external design teams in the execution of such deliverables.
    • Create and communicate project documentation including sequence of operations, installation procedures, and checklists for commissioning and start-up
    • Write scopes of work, bid request for proposals, specify and order material.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; or equivalent engineering experience.
  • 3 years or more experience with Semiconductor Facilities and/or mechanical systems experience such as designing, maintaining, or installing distribution piping, duct work, HVAC, chillers, pumping systems, exhaust system, and/or process related systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates leadership and project management skills, including organizational, time management and priority setting
  • Proficient to Microsoft office software include Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and AutoCAD.
  • Able to create construction drawings, details, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), etc.
  • Fire Protection and Process system operation skill is a plus.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and fire codes.
  • Experience with industrial facilities.
  • Experience with installation, construction, and management of capital projects.
  • Certifications or training with specific semiconductor Mechanical system infrastructure is a plus.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong safety leadership
