Within Capital One’s design team, the Experience Strategy group seeks a Design Practice Lead to craft the strategy for standardizing and operationalizing our Design Practice in service of our 700+ design associates and partners. Experience Strategy is a small, horizontal team of about 30 designers who serve our broader design team working across all parts of Capital One’s business. Our mission is to define and drive universal practices in service of advancing our maturity as a design organization and empowering our teams to deliver their best work. And we need your help to ensure that our designers and partners are enabled with the right tools, resources and processes that will elevate their work and Capital One’s design acumen!
As our Design Practice Lead you will use your design expertise to create and run a robust service that empowers our designers to deliver their best work by standardizing our process and quality expectations. You will be the service owner, caring for and evolving critical standards such as: our design process, ux quality standards, and a variety of best practices curated across our core disciplines. You’ll do this by leveraging the expertise of our organization and co-creating impactful methods for maintaining a rigorous and effective design practice.

What You’ll Do:
You’ll be asked to handle a variety of responsibilities, including:
Strategy & Planning
Engaging in portfolio prioritization and guiding the design practice strategy for the Experience Design organization
Managing through shifting priorities to provide clear direction and input
Advocating for our customers (Experience Designers, Capital One Associates and Senior Leadership) through human-centered design methods, ensuring strategy addresses their needs
Embracing and advocating for an experience mindset—this is as important to the work as the results
Discovery & Delivery
Identify Design Practice needs across audiences
Craft and maintain a Design Practice strategy to address those needs in a human-centered manner
Collaborate with our Equity by Design program leadership to integrate equitable practices throughout our practice strategy
Collaborate with our operations team to fully operationalize and maintain all aspects of the Design Practice service and ensure continuous improvement
Lead & Develop Teams
Building and leading successful teams through career development by mentoring, coaching, and elevating others
Guiding team members and facilitating strategy, research, alignment, and analysis
Navigating conflict resolution within your team as well as within projects, teams and partner relationships
At least 8 years of experience in a design role such as Design Management, Service Design, Design Strategy, Research, or UX/UI design
Experience in a horizontal role supporting internal teams
Experience in a people leadership role
Experience in multiple design roles and familiarity with all design disciplines, including emerging practices
Experience managing multiple programs of work
Familiarity with agile principles, project management methodologies and tools
