Location: Cary, NC

Hybrid role (3 days in office, 2 days work from home)

Technology Vendor Strategy Consultant I within Technology Vendor Strategy and Relations for Global Technology. Its primary accountability is to work with Technology providers to ensure their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the Enterprise IT and Business Strategy and Architecture. This role partners with IT Leaders to assist in the implementation and delivery against the IT and Vendor Strategy, partnering with Global Procurement, GTO, and the Business in RFP creation, business requirements, Service Levels, supporting negotiations of technical deals to reduce risk, enhance value, and ensure cost optimization. This role provides subject matter expertise that ensures high quality of Services with industry leading commercial agreements. responsibility includes building strong partnerships with global business stakeholders, collaborate with cross-functional teams and internal stakeholders including the MetLife Business, Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, Architecture, InfoSec, IT, Global Procurement, and others to ensure alignment with MetLife’s policies and procedures, where necessary. This role also serves to support supplier-related issues and closure with escalation to senior management and suppliers, driving change management, and supporting Technology Strategic Sourcing positioning.  The role will also hold a responsibility for supporting and maintaining key relationships with some of our Strategic Partners and ensuring operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Role supports technology supplier footprint of $100M+ in annual spend with key global supplier relationships; maximizes supplier value to MetLife through contractual provisions and holding suppliers accountable for delivery in accordance with their contractual obligations.
  • Assist in the implementation of the consolidation and reduction of 3K+ technology supplier footprint, driving optimization and simplification across the Technology ecosystem by enforcing IT Controls and Vendor Strategy alignment.
  • Actively works with procurement and other cross-functional teams on all technical requirements and performance standards, providing subject matter expertise and alignment to GTO’s strategic plan to also seek more savings and better contractual terms for MetLife. This involves collaborating with key stakeholders to identify risks and recommend alternatives to mitigate such risks.
  • Working with Employee Relations/legal to ensure a consistent process and governance and alignment to MetLife’s policies and procedures.
  • Supports technical vendor negotiations, as supporting SME, including terms and provides strategic risk decisions (ex: length of term, service levels, contractual/operating models, etc.)
  • Ability to conduct/support financial analysis on technology vendors
  • Advises on structuring service level agreements and leads ongoing supplier performance management.
  • Analysis and closure of supplier-related issues with senior management, process change management, alignment to IT Strategy, and serving as the authority for critical issue escalation to closure. 
  • Engages with Industry experts and tooling to have knowledge of current on Industry trends
  • Responsible for understanding and assisting execution of financial and contractual agreements and Service Levels with IT Vendors
  • Responsible for Service Level Penalty Enforcement and tracking.
  • Responsible for coordinating/developing performance improvements with/for external Service providers, as needed.
  • Supports audits of external service providers as necessary
  • Supports activities involving facilitation of the Technology Vendor Strategy & Relations (TVSR) Service Catalog and processes, including volume discount analysis, supplier rebate closure, vendor credits, Visa Letter process.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong strategic critical thinker with proven track record of driving and delivering enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects with general supervision (can work independently)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to create presentation decks
  • Strong analytical skills, Data Analytics and Insights with excellence in Excel; great with numbers
  • Deep understanding of supplier contracts and structure with an eagerness to further develop that understanding
  • Deep understanding of SLAs, KPI and other performance measures, methodology, and milestones
  • Translating contract terms into effective on-going supplier performance monitoring and contract compliance
  • Work hand-in-hand with IT functional leaders, their orgs, Global Procurement, Legal and Finance departments to negotiate best in class deals and then monitor vendor performance on those deals
  • Managing escalations and knowing when to escalate around assigned vendors
  • Financial knowledge preferred (Payments, invoicing, accruals, calculation and application of credits)
  • Ability to execute in accordance with assigned duties and planned deliverables
