Principal Data Analyst - Cyber Security

Role Value Proposition:

The Principal Data Analyst will use their expertise in analytics, data engineering, or data science to help mature MetLife’s cybersecurity operations. Initial emphasis will be on analytics related to infrastructure security, with the goal of participating in more cross-functional projects with other Cyber Security areas and broader Information Security teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automate the analytical process used to identify potentially critical security vulnerabilities using data from threat intel tools and external, open-source data sources to aid in analysis

  • Support the creation of predictive analytics around insider threats and security incidents

  • Lead creation of analytics and automation of manual processes across Cyber Security

  • Identify and lead improvements related to data quality and data governance

  • Lead or support additional projects as directed by cyber security management

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:


  • All aspects of data gathering, extract-transform-load process, analysis, and reporting

  • Coding / scripting, particularly Python, code management best practices

  • Minimum of 4 years combined hands on experience as a data analyst, data engineer, or data scientist

  • Excellent interpersonal skills: collaborative, inquisitive, flexible mindset

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Critical thinker and problem solver, able to identify gaps in processes, documentation, requirements, and technology

  • Advanced degree in data science, statistics, or related field


  • Development, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning models using methods such as regression, clustering, classification, and dimensionality reduction

  • Optimization / decision science

  • Familiarity with Splunk, Linux server environments, and Agile tools such as Azure DevOps

  • Vulnerability Management or Cyber Security experience, or at least familiarity with information security best practices, frameworks, and controls

  • Experience working in complex, diverse and global (international) environments
