MetLife’s Agricultural Investments group is one of the largest agricultural mortgage lenders in North America. Our agricultural investments are an important part of MetLife’s asset-liability matching program. The long-term nature of these investments makes them a good match for the long-term liabilities the company writes. MetLife’s agricultural portfolio had a record production year in 2020, originating $4.74B, despite the impact of COVID and over $6B in 2021. MetLife’s commercial agricultural portfolio is approximately $23B.

MetLife’s Agricultural Investments group is seeking an exceptional and experienced Assistant Regional Director. This individual will be an intracule member of the Central Regional Office (CRO) leadership team. The CRO sources and manages agricultural mortgage investments through a mortgage origination team in multiple locations covering a large and diverse geographic region from Colorado to Maine. The Assistant Regional Director makes investment decisions, supports the strategy for originating and managing an investment portfolio on behalf of MetLife’s US General Account and third-party clients.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

  • Ability to support a large team of agricultural mortgage originators in multiple locations.
  • Maintain and leverage an active network among agricultural investment and lending professionals.
  • Ability to earn the trust of internal and external stakeholders, existing and prospective customers, and industry leaders.

Loan Origination:

  • Provide credit review and loan closing support to attain aggressive business goals.
  • Approve loans within delegated authority, sponsoring loans for presentation to agricultural credit committee.
  • Provide front end deal guidance to origination team regarding loan pricing, structure, and risk assessments.

Portfolio Management:

  • Support portfolio management and credit quality of agricultural loans totaling over $4.5 billion.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills


  • 15+ years relevant experience with a proven track record of negotiating, underwriting, and servicing agricultural debt deals.
  • Very strong credit and analytical skills, superior knowledge of lending principles, credit procedures, collateral, and credit.
  • Strong leadership skills and relationship management skills.
  • Detailed understanding of capital structures and the risks associated with different positions in a complex capital stack.
  • Has an active network among agricultural investment and lending professionals.
  • Real estate valuation knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Highly professional in all circumstances as a representative of MetLife Investment Management and MetLife Agricultural on a regional platform.


  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Banking as well as any other related field of expertise; MBA or master’s degree
  • Experience with loan workouts, including those requiring complex solutions
