Statement of Purpose

The Vice President, Marketing and Communications, will serve as a vital member of NIB’s leadership team as the organization looks to transform its messaging and advance the brand among targeted stakeholders. Serving in a highly visible capacity, this individual will play a critical role assisting the executive vice president and chief program officer (EVP/CPO) in the development of the organization’s comprehensive communications and marketing strategies.

The Vice President, Marketing and Communications will be a dynamic and accomplished marketing executive with strong analytical, communication and execution skills. This role will develop a strategy and innovative approach to enhance the brand to garner enhanced visibility and awareness.

Responsibility for the Work of Others

Leads a team of marketing and communications professionals including supervising the Director of Communications, the Program Director of Marketing and Design, the Communications Program Manager, and the Product Marketing Manager. He/She is also responsible for the oversight of public relations firms and other communications and marketing consultants.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in marketing, communications, or related field required, masters preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be acceptable.

Experience

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in a senior management role.
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic marketing and communications, social media and traditional media relations, and marketing programs to advance the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Proven track record in leading communications and marketing efforts for an organization with a diverse set of constituencies and audiences.
  • Strong command of social networking and multi-media strategies and tactics. A track record in implementing and utilizing effective strategies in a variety of media.
  • Extensive background and experience in digital and e-commerce marketing.
  • Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of marketing and communications professionals.

Travel and Location

This position is a headquarters position and is not eligible for remote status. Travel expected to be approximately 20%.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing Communications

  • Develop comprehensive marketing plans that clearly define objectives, goals, schedules and assignments to implement and achieve targeted opportunities.
  • Provide strategic direction, prioritization and oversight to Marketing, Brand and Design efforts (graphic design, packaging and design, product marketing and brand management) to build support of NIB and our associated agencies through best-in-class marketing, advertising, branding, and packaging efforts.
  • Work closely with the organization’s business development and operations teams to identify business priorities and develop supporting marketing and communications strategies, plans, and tactics.
  • Direct multi-faceted digital marketing and advertising campaigns that drive business and mission priorities; ensure measurable marketing performance goals and KPIs are set, and performance tracked, applying learnings to future work.
  • Coordinate across NIB and the National Association for the Employment of People Who Are Blind (NAEPB) to develop and execute strategic marketing and communications campaigns to advance public policy priorities.
  • Oversee the organization’s marketing efforts on e-commerce platforms; craft the organization’s e-commerce marketing strategy and oversee implementation on specific commercial platforms, including Amazon and Amazon Business.
  • Oversee other digital marketing and communications efforts, including organic and paid social media advertising, search engine optimization activities, Google Ads, pre-roll, radio, public service announcements, and other tactics.
  • Oversee the SKILCRAFT brand strategy including the setting of style guides, brand guidelines and brand architecture. Protect brand integrity by ensuring all brand usage is in alignment with brand vision and standards.
  • Develop strategies and plans which identify marketing opportunities and carry out programs for market research and analysis including market segments, buying trends and analysis.
  • Oversee SKILCRAFT brand strategy including the setting of style guides, brand guidelines and brand architecture. Protect brand integrity by ensuring all brand usage is in alignment with brand vision and standards.
  • Establish key metrics which measure results against expected outcomes/goals.

Corporate Communications

  • Develop and manage implementation of all strategic corporate communications and marketing efforts to advance NIB’s identity; broaden awareness of NIB’s mission, initiatives, and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences and stakeholders.
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, and brand awareness. Act as company spokesperson if needed.
  • Manage internal and external communications vehicles: the organization’s complete digital footprint (web, social media, video), publications, presentations, and speeches.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate messaging throughout the organization, consistent with the organizations policies. Develop and implement new communications mechanisms for outreach to internal and external audiences (media “toolkits,” templates, etc.)
  • Lead crisis management planning and response, including offering real-time crisis management guidance and support to NIB executive leadership.
  • Responsible for the management of communications and marketing efforts in support of the New York State Use program, NYSPSP, and support to the U.S. AbilityOne Commission.
  • Manage AbilityOne Commission-related communications and marketing deliverables and functions pertaining to the Cooperative Agreement between the AbilityOne Commission and NIB.
  • Oversee the planning and logistics for all organizational conferences and events to maximize attendance and value to the participants.
  • Direct strategic and tactical marketing and advertising campaigns that drive business and mission priorities; ensure measurable marketing performance goals and KPIs are set, and performance tracked, applying learnings to future work.

Organizational Leadership

  • Advise and support the EVP/CPO and other NIB senior leaders on executive communications needs.
  • Member of NIB’s Continuous Process Improvement Executive Steering Committee helping guide and direct organizational priorities.
  • Liaise with AbilityOne Program partners, associated agencies, and others as appropriate; co-chair the NAEPB marketing committee working closely with the committee on key marketing and communications activities.
  • Serve as a communications counsel and strategic partner to associated agencies on any number of communications and marketing projects and initiatives.

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a high performing communications team with multiple direct reports and additional indirect staff members.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality and excellence.
  • Direct the development of the Department’s operating policies, systems, and processes. Responsible for several SOPs included within NIB’s Quality Management System.
  • Develop and oversee the department’s budget and allocate funds strategically and equitably
  • Ensure vendors, consultants and agencies add value in a measurable and cost-effective way.
