About the Job
The database administrator will be responsible for providing administration services in support of run/maintain and project-based activities. The DBA will follow standard established processes to fulfill incoming requests from customers for new configurations, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance. The DBA will work in a team environment supporting non-production and production databases. Candidates must possess strong skills in analyzing, conceptualizing and problem solving.

Some key activities include:

  • Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on end user requirements
  • Design and implement database in accordance to end users information needs and views
  • Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner
  • Support database recovery and backup functions as needed
  • Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
  • Monitor database space trending and forecast disk space capacity accordingly
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum BS in MIS/CIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Basic understanding of Networks, Operating systems (Windows, Unix) and Databases (Oracle)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Oracle and SQL databases
  • Hands-on experience with database standards and end-user applications
  • Excellent knowledge of database backup, recovery, security, integrity
  • Familiarity with database design, documentation, query, and coding
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
  • Setup, upgrade and patching of Oracle and SQL databases
  • Database operations monitoring using scripts and OEM
  • Familiarity with Oracle HAS, Grid and ASM
  • Experience copying databases/renaming files and creating control files - SQL/PL SQL and UNIX shell scripting experience - Focus on providing a high availability database - Tuning SQL and PL/SQL - Physical and logical tuning of Oracle Database
