Meta is looking for a Network Operations Engineer responsible for the Operational support of one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to deploy, design and maintain network devices and be involved in all aspects of networking at Facebook.

Required SkillsNetwork Operations Engineer, MMI Responsibilities:
  • Be the key Subject Matter Expert on operations of Facebook production networks in a hyper-scale and heterogeneous environment.
  • Formulate the right metrics and definitions of success to drive quality, efficiency, cost, and timeliness, and evolve this over time to match changes to the infrastructure and business requirements.
  • Develop the operational process improvement plans and transform the improvements to scalable and automated workflows by writing and reviewing the code to improve the operational efficiency.
  • Perform deep dives on complex technical issues across networks, ranging from automated tooling to hardware failures and network issues.
  • Anticipate potential operational risks and develop strategies to mitigate/minimize.
  • Supervise the global support center's operations and be the escalation point of contact.
  • Run turnkey projects. Receive/review designs from engineering and run field deployments.
  • Act as primary liaison to third party vendors, both managed service providers and fiber providers, managing the operations/deployment relationship and driving performance.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with vendors and have a familiarity with the contracts and drive measurable statistics against them.
  • Technical support to drive contractor teams for network restoration, performance test and engineering services for our national critical infrastructure and optical fiber deployments.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers, Procurement, Engineering, Installation teams and vendors to formalize operational acceptance plans.
  • Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolve.
  • Guide retrospective reviews of completed projects with teams to incorporate lessons learned into team’s future roadmaps & goals.
  • Oversee documentation effort with technical writers to ensure key decisions are captured and all necessary documentation for support and troubleshooting are maintained.
  • Document end-to-end business process (workflows) as they are defined throughout the program.
  • Participate and improve escalation and emergency response with detailed postmortem while addressing issues systematically to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ensure processes are in place to ensure all documentation and systems are delivered to Operations as well as ensuring the team are trained and equipped to support the operation of the newly deployed subsea network.
  • Manage expectations of all interested parties – define clear program with key deliverable and milestone dates.
  • Maintain deployment status reporting and provide frequent deployment updates.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Traffic, Logistics, Program Management, and OEM partners to deliver superb operational results and manage the performance of external vendors.
  • Participate in on-call rotations with the global operations team.
  • Availability to travel at least 15% of the time (domestic and international).
Minumum QualificationMinimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in critical infrastructure operations and/or engineering, outside plant operations and/or engineering, optical fiber transport technology and at least one of the following networking domains: IP/CDN/ Edge networking or network operations center management.
  • Experience understanding architecture for system dependencies and translate these into deployable solutions.
  • Experience working within a global team and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with limited supervision.
  • Experience identifying key metrics/measures that will be used to evaluate success and validate the business impact of the program.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
Preferred QualificationPreferred Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience with critical infrastructure engineering and/or operations, outside plant operations and/or engineering, optical fiber transport technology, network operations, and tooling/automation preferably while supporting a large-scale service provider or hyper scale network infrastructure.
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, network management/monitoring protocols and routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and MPLS.
  • Expert knowledge of data driven analysis and systems integration.
  • Experience with vendor relationship management and providing technical direction to vendors.
  • Experience with software programs in higher-level languages (e.g., Python, C++, Go, etc.) and experience learning new languages, technologies, frameworks, and APIs.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, etc. or equivalent academic course work or experience.
  • 6+ years of network operations experience while supporting large-scale network infrastructure preferably with a service provider or hyper scale environment.
