Job Description BAE Systems’ Austin, TX facility has an immediate opening for a chief engineer supporting programs in the Countermeasure and Electro-Magnetic Attack (CEMA) business area. BAE Systems is looking for a System Engineer with experience in electronic warfare systems . The successful candidate will serve as Chief Engineer for our family of products produce at the Austin, TX facility. This role will consist of serving as lead engineer on the product line and ensuring success through sound architecture/engineering practices, system thinking, demonstrated leadership and mentoring of junior engineers. The chief engineer will also be providing both internal and customer-facing support to the various milestone reviews of the system elements. We are looking for motivated, positive minded, and challenge seeking engineers for cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams.

This position is located in Austin, TX. Our engineers are members of cross-functional, multi-disciplined teams focused on developing cost-effective systems that protect our Warfighters. Candidates for this position can expect to work in mid-size teams that may be co-located and/or geographically distributed. Applicants for this position should have an interest in mentoring the wide range of domain skills found within the Engineering discipline and be the technical conscience for the product. We are seeking a Chief Engineer to lead development efforts in Electronic Warfare (EW) technologies. The Chief Engineer role at BAE is neither purely a program role or a business role. Chief engineers use their strong subject matter expertise to contribute directly to the architecture and design of the products they support, while also supporting program leadership in the management of projects, and liaising with customers and other stakeholders in order to develop technical roadmaps and recommend development priorities for the business as a whole.

In this role, you will

  • Collaborate with groups in the intelligence community and DoD to gather information on signals of interest
  • Analyze current and emerging commercial and military EW systems
  • Creates/Supports technical planning
  • Lead creation and/or review of operational concepts, develop and document system level operational concepts
  • Review alternatives and perform trade studies including cost, risk, supportability and analyses for total systems.
  • Lead an in-depth technical engineering research, analysis and support translation of requirements into system architecture by providing systems engineering guidance for multidisciplinary design teams providing allocation of requirements to engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions
  • Review of algorithms
  • Approve System Level Integration, Verification and Validation
  • Identify and communicate technical risk and opportunities
  • Represent the technical team to internal and external customers
  • Ensure IP identification and protection
  • Lead an inter-company integrated product team to develop new EW products.
  • Complete, both independently and with the support of the team, analyses to shape both micro (specific product design) and macro (product roadmap) decisions.
  • Architect and contribute to the design of both the assigned product and other EO/IR Detector and Laser products in our portfolio.
  • Support technical decision making for EW products over the product lifecycle.
  • As a subject matter expert and senior engineer, assist with the education and professional development of more junior staff.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills The candidate shall possess the following skills and experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 15 years related industry experience or equivalent experience
  • Ability to think strategically and formulate strategies to solve rapidly evolving highly challenged technical problems
  • Excellent written and oral communications and ability to influence internal leadership and customers with technical expertise and business perspective
  • Proven ability to share and transfer technology and know-how across organizational boundaries
  • Expertise in EW technology, including technical factors driving system performance.
  • Expertise in quantitative analysis and trade studies of EW systems.
  • Expertise in military EW system design and packaging and demonstrated ability to engineer with tight constraints in size, weight, power, thermal management, bandwidth, security, etc.
  • Experience successfully leading multi-million-dollar development programs.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills The following skills and experience are preferred:
  • Master's degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or Computer Science
  • Greater than 15 years of experience solving critical problems in EW systems
  • Specific skills within the domains of EW systems
  • Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
