FSET-Ashore Network Engineer Sharkcage (22013)

  • Overview

    • Fleet Systems Engineer (FSE) will provide support for Navy Fleet Cyber Command, 10th Fleet by providing system administration duties and support at NCTAMS PAC Wahiawa, HI. This includes SME level support for all information systems and applications used within the Sharkcage enclave to include RHEL servers and workstations, network devices, SAN storage, virtual machines, ESXi servers, HTML, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and data analysis software. This will also include input and management and retrieval of Big Data collection. Engineer will assist the customer with developing, reviewing and updating operational and technical procedures and documentation. Must be TS/SCI eligible.


  • Provide SME level troubleshooting for Sharkcage information systems’, operating system and applications. Perform STIG checks and ACAS scanning to maintain the information systems compliance. Experienced with heterogeneous operating Unix-based Operating Systems environment.
  • Manage network infrastructure and provide assistance with remote connections into Dogstar enclave. Troubleshoot VPN connections and routing.
  • Assist with the operational use, system administration, and troubleshooting of Splunk which provides a SIEM for all events and alerts generated within Sharkcage. Provide feedback or create solutions to get different data sources into existing SIEMs. Work with vendors directly to address any issues with SIEMs or data-analysis software.
  • Assist NAVWAR with documentation for Sharkcage information system’s Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process. Update documentation including network topology diagrams, POAMs, and ACAS scan reports.
  • Assist NCTAMS PAC with network traffic analysis for incidents that have occurred or may be ongoing. An understanding of network traffic flow and the network architecture will be required to provide the best feedback and points of contact for any such incidents. The enclave processes data from various locations so traffic analysis may be required by the remote sites as well.
  • Build and maintain virtual and physical servers used within the enclave. Build a virtual machine from an installation ISO file and install required software as needed.
  • Assist with the integration of new tools to be used within Sharkcage that may provide additional data analysis on packets being captured. Follows leading edge technologies.
  • Interact with users for help desk support, development of support tools, participate in system building, and evolution of the cyber support infrastructure.


  • Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualification:
  • BS in Information Technology (or equivalent technical degree) or 8+ years technical experience in related discipline required.
  • 8+ years of experience with DoD enterprise or Navy networks.
  • 4+ years of experience in troubleshooting networks and operating system issues across multiple systems.
  • Preferred Certifications:
  • IAT2 certifications required for both OS and IA (Security+ CE or equivalent required).
  • LINUX certifications required.
  • Skills:
  • Network operations and maintenance with experience in server virtualization and systems administration (Linux/Unix/Windows) required.
  • Ability to work with a team to resolve complex problems across multiple systems required.
  • Experience in information assurance operations also required, including use of ACAS and application of STIGs.
  • Knowledge of DoD network architectures required.
  • Must be able to communicate well both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to communicate well with senior Navy/DOD officials and technical personnel
