Job Description This is a hybrid home and office work location position. T​​here will be times when you will be required to work onsite. These include systems integration and test activities, classified activities, and working on non-network accessible hardware platforms. To allow employees to balance their work and personal lives, we offer flexible “9/80” work schedules, where employees work nine-hour days with every other Friday off within a two-week pay period.

The FAST Labs business area is the innovative research and development engine within the Electronic Systems Sector of BAE.

As a Fast Labs Software Manager II Technical Section Lead you will:

  • Lead in the evaluation and design and implementation of highly complex and innovative software architectures.
  • Handle people management (hiring, performance management, goal setting, and career growth) for a section of 5-7 people.
  • Manage the technical success of teams as a project lead or software engineering lead.
  • Mentor and train junior staff in software engineering and development industry best practices and process.
  • Contribute to and review software proposals as a primary representative of the FAST Labs software organization.
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers including Hardware, Systems, Software and Scientists.
Qualified candidates will also possess knowledge of software architectures, software industry best practices, and emerging software technologies. As a member of the Software Engineering Directorate, you will have opportunities to continue developing strong and increasingly complex software skills and stay current in the software discipline.

The organization focuses on career development of our software engineers and advancement of the craft of software engineering. You will be working alongside other highly motivated engineers passionate about software and protecting our military service personnel.

Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship status.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in technical area with 10+ years professional SW development experience.
  • 2+ years of people management including hiring, performance management, career management, goal setting, and mentoring, of software engineering staff at all levels with groups of 5-7 staff members.
  • Current Object-Oriented language experience (C++ or Java) in a Linux Environment
  • Current experience developing software for systems which are any or several of the following: distributed, multi-threaded systems, real time, low latency, DSP, or military.
  • 5+ years of technical management of fast paced technology demonstration, exploration, and proof of concept programs from concept to field testing in a multi-disciplinary organization.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Current C++ or Java software development experience on Linux.
  • Proficiency with software build tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, git, CMake, and Ant.
  • Software Architecture experience.
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Experience.
  • General Purpose Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) development such as CUDA & OpenCL.
  • Cloud Native Technologies experience (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Harbor, Helm, etc.)
  • RF Electronic Warfare or Software Defined Radio experience.
