In accordance with the applicable DOE order this is the fourth or highest non-management position in an established Safety Basis Analyst (SBA) career track. The position serves as the subject matter expert and functions in full compliance with DOE, OSHA, NEPA, NRC, NFPA and Laboratory Orders, Directives and Standards pertaining to nuclear facility operations and integrated safety management. As the subject matter expert of the division`s Safety Basis Analysts group is responsible for performing safety evaluations and assessments of engineered systems and operations in nuclear and radiological facilities, including operational safety, radiological safety, nuclear criticality safety, hazards and risk assessments. Prepare documented safety analyses, technical safety requirements, un-reviewed safety question determinations and supporting documentation.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years’ work experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge required of DOE requirements, guides and standards for the preparation and maintenance of the safety basis for nuclear facilities, including but not limited to documented safety analyses, technical safety requirements, and the un-reviewed safety question process.
  • Skills required in applying analytical approaches and techniques used in safety evaluations to multiple facilities and operations; interpreting and integrating results into safety basis documents; oral and written communication of results.
  • Knowledge required in the use of analytical methods for hazards and risk assessment, failure analysis, and radiological and chemical release consequence evaluation.
  • Skill required in the maintenance of ANL and external technical relationships.
  • Knowledge required of nuclear technology safety standards and practices; radiological materials use and controls; nuclear technology accident phenomenology; experimental tools and techniques; and nuclear criticality safety.
  • Skill in leadership; supervising and directing technical staff.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT3 or PT4) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:

  • PT3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4+ years of experience or equivalent.
  • PT4 Level: Bachelor’s and 6+ years of experience or equivalent.
