Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light (FPL) is the largest energy company in the United States as measured by retail electricity produced and sold, serving more than 5 million customer accounts or an estimated 10 million+ people across the state of Florida. FPL’s typical residential customer bill is approximately 30% lower than the national average and among the lowest in the U.S. We're seeking certified Journeymen Linemen to join us in the Sunshine State! We have multiple opportunities available, actual work location may vary across the Pensacola, Panama City and Fort Walton areas within Florida.

In this role, you will be expected to safely perform all associated tasks with the construction, maintenance, and restoration of all overhead and underground facilities (excluding vaults, manholes, and hot compounds).

Key Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and repair all distribution and transmission circuits and equipment and prepare all associated paperwork.
  • Responsible for ensuring all jobs assigned are worked in accordance with company design standards and work methods.
  • Support projects requiring extended work hours in inclement weather
  • Travel throughout Florida in cases of emergencies and storms, to restore power.
  • May work alone or as part of a crew supervising a lower classification such as a groundworker, apprentice, or helper.
  • Support either Transmission or Distribution Units
Job Overview

Journeymen Line Technicians and/or Service Technicians will be expected to safely perform all associated tasks with the construction, maintenance and restoration of all overhead and underground facilities. They must be able to troubleshoot and repair all distribution and transmission circuits and equipment and prepare all associated paperwork. They will be responsible for making sure that all jobs assigned are worked in accordance with company design standards and work methods. May be required to work extended hours in inclement weather, may be required to travel throughout the system in cases of emergencies and storms, to restore the system. Journeymen may work alone, on a crew, or supervise a lower classification such as a ground worker, apprentice, or helper without direct supervision of a higher level classification. Journeymen may choose to work in either our Transmission or Distribution Units and may utilize our internal job posting system to move between the Units/Work Location. Line Specialists are expected to have the flexibility to work any shift at their assigned work location.

Required Qualification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable work experience as a Journeyman Class 1 or A level craft worker
  • Commercial Driver's License, Class A or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment
  • Climbing skills
  • Completion of the Gulf Power apprentice program or another accredited apprenticeship program
  • Able to work in direct sunlight or at night
  • Physically able to perform all assigned tasks
Preferred Qualification
  • Proficient with live line maintenance (gloving) up to twenty-five (25) KV and the use of hot sticks for all voltages
  • Bucket Truck Rescue Certification
  • Pole Top Rescue Certification
  • Tower Rescue Certification
