Support the design and implementation of projects for the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTC) program. Provide engineering and project management support for AVTC activities, including technical deliverables, workshops and competition events. Provide on-site support and manage event schedules and training schedules. Assess the efficacy of various AVTC activities through feedback from AVTC stakeholders to maximize value to the AVTC program. Develop and maintain file-sharing solutions to support virtual collaboration between AVTC organizers, teams, and sponsors. Manage the release of AVTC documentation to teams and sponsors to maintain a high-level of quality. Coordinate the AVTC Graduate Research Assistantship program and interface with AVTC GRAs. Provide User-Centric Design subject matter expertise and apply those methods and principles to the AVTC program with the goal of adding value to the AVTC program and to Argonne.
Support the Technical Project Manager in the design and implementation of projects within the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTC) program from initiation through execution, per requirements defined by the U.S. Department of Energy, competition-level sponsors, and institutional stakeholders.
Directly support certain technical activities within the AVTC program. Technical assignments will be determined based on the skillset and relevant technical experience of the candidate, the needs of the program, and the collective skillset of other Argonne staff supporting the program. Technical areas may include (but are not limited to): vehicle technical inspections, developing presentations for year-end competition, defining customer-related activities for AVTC teams, defining activities related to the vehicle design process for AVTC teams.
Provide in-person support for AVTC events as dictated by the needs of the event and the AVTC program. This may include on-site support as well as coordination with internal and external technical and logistics personnel to develop and maintain training schedules or event schedules.
Assess the efficacy of various AVTC activities by developing, conducting, and analyzing surveys of various AVTC stakeholders (students, sponsors, organizers, and Argonne staff), preparing outcome reports for AVTC organizers, and recommending changes for improvement.
Establish and maintain file-sharing site(s) to meet the needs of EcoCAR teams, sponsors, and Argonne staff. Manage key documentation releases to teams and sponsors. Apply quality control and change control principles to documentation releases to maintain a high level of quality and a uniform look and feel for key AVTC documentation.
Collect, evaluate, and approve applications from AVTC teams for AVTC-provided GRA funding. Communicate and enforce GRA funding requirements. Collect and archive any publications published by AVTC GRAs.
User-Centric Design (UCD) subject matter expert: Assist Argonne staff in applying UCD methods and principles to enhance internal design and development activities. Assist Argonne staff in integrating UCD concepts into AVTC student activities across all areas of the program.
Continue to gain knowledge in the transportation, project management, or User-Centric Design (UCD) fields, particularly regarding advanced vehicle technologies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends in the automotive industry and its interaction with DOE and other government agencies.
Perform other administrative duties as assigned according to the needs of the AVTC program.
Publish papers, give technical presentations at workshops and conferences.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
Demonstrated propensity for attention to detail and high standards for quality in personal work habits.
Mastery of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Expertise in written communication, particularly technical writing.
Skill in technical presentations and oral communications.
Skill in time management, organization, self-direction, and working on several projects simultaneously.
Skill in inter-organization collaboration and multi-disciplinary teamwork.
At a minimum, the candidate must have a strong interest in UCD and a willingness to seek out training resources and develop expertise through self-motivated learning.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (RD1 or RD2) depending upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:
RD1 Level: Bachelor’s and 0 years or Master’s and 0 years.
RD2 Level: Bachelor’s and 5+ years; Master’s and 3+ years; Doctorate and 2-4 years, or equivalent.
