The Account Receivable Clerk is responsible for posting all patient and insurance payments and the processing of the daily corresponding received. Ensure proper posting by performing efficient and accurate data entry of electric/manual payments, denials and adjustments received for medical services into the Practice Management databases in accordance with policies and procedures established by the department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Post and reconcile payments, adjustments, and denials to patient accounts
  • Confirm accurate transfer of outstanding balances to secondary insurance carriers or patient responsibilities
  • Research and prepare refunds on accounts with credit balances
  • Research unidentified payments and/or recoupments for posting
  • Post “zero-payment” explanation of benefits and transfer balance to appropriate payor
  • Opens and sort daily mail and forward to Lockbox for processing
  • Process daily correspondence files from Lockbox
  • Extract PDF lockbox documents and allocate documents to designated folders
  • Prepare PDF Documents for scanning for upload to Right Fax
  • Process return mail for undeliverable Billing statements and Refund checks
  • Process assigned Billing Packets for posting Clinic payments
  • Prepares and processes Remote Deposit Capture for Finance deposits
  • Assist patients calls with questions regarding insurance and or account balances
  • Answer correspondence and or telephone inquiries from insurance companies
  • Represents the Company in a professional manner by following all Company policies and procedures
  • Uses, protects, and discloses patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the staff, clinics, ancillary departments, and management
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience of health care experience in medical payment processing
  • Knowledge of manual and electronic payment posting
  • Knowledge of EOB’s Copays/ coinsurance/ deductibles/denial codes, and insurances allowable

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with PM systems - Allscripts and Athena
  • Good understanding of CPT, ICD 10 codes and modifiers
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills
  • Intermediate Adobe PDF Document Organization skills
  • Solid and accurate data entry and 10 Key skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid knowledge of Medical Insurance plans
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and directives
  • Ability to work under time constraints
  • Organized and detail-oriented
