Functions Provides direct nutrition care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Scope Impacts the nutrition care management of all patients.
Essential Job Function Provides quality nutrition care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, nutrition status and other needs in an acute care environment, as well as within the clinics as appropriate. Provides support and guidance to Dietetic Interns. Participates in ongoing education as appropriate. Provides a comprehensive assessment of nutritional status, determines patient's nutrient needs and develops a comprehensive plan of care by using department-established guidelines. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team individually and in group meetings in recommending, implementing, and monitoring of nutrition interventions. Documents care in the medical record. Provides ongoing or follow-up care according to established time frames and reassessment criteria. Identifies and provides for patient and family education needs. Participates in departmental quality improvement efforts. Participates in the development and/or revision of departmental diet manual, formulary, practice guidelines and educational resources.

Required: Bachelor's degree and completion of an American Dietetic Association (ADA) approved dietetic internship or its equivalent.
Preferred: Two years of experience in an acute care setting, in a tertiary, acute care facility.
Required: All of the following: Current Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Current Licensed Dietitian (LD) with Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
