Job Description About This Role The Plant Engineer is responsible for support of both GMP and non-GMP utility systems at a dynamic and diverse biologics manufacturing site with great opportunities for personal and career growth. The role requires engineering technical knowledge for support and troubleshooting for clean utilities, plant utilities, process gasses and waste systems. It also includes involvement in identifying and executing improvements to equipment including support for design, construction and commissioning work on capital and operational projects. Projects can include the installation of plant utility equipment required for new capabilities as well as modifications to existing equipment. Position requires the ability to contribute to multi-function teams to implement change and improve on existing engineering design, construction, and commissioning processes. The ideal candidate can manage small engineering projects with some direction including working with other teams within Biogen and providing direction to contractors. The role is part of a diverse Plant Engineering team of 4 to 6 Engineers and requires excellent verbal and written communication skills along with organizational and time management skills. What You’ll Do Provide Plant Engineering support to utilities operation including monitoring and analysis of system performance, investigation of equipment failures, making operational enhancements and execution of continuous improvement projects. Provide project support and execution for small OpEx projects and work with other Engineering team members to support larger Capital projects. Execute commissioning and startup for new and modified facility systems. Maintain and update Plant Engineering documentation including drawings, URSs, specifications, change controls and technical reports, as applicable. Support GMP compliance efforts including personal training, GMP document development, compliance workflow tracking, & regulatory audit support, as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 0 - 2 years of progressive engineering experience Strong organization, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills for working across groups and with key stakeholders and management. Engineering experience supporting some of the following equipment: air handlers, clean rooms, compendial water systems, clean steam systems, clean gas systems, plant steam, hot water skids, process glycol and tower/chilled water systems. Experience with Engineering documentation requirements (drawings, specifications, URS/FRS, change management, etc). Must be willing to participate in an on-call rotation and [rarely] work rotating, or extended shifts as needed to support shutdowns and major projects. Preferred Qualifications Prefer GMP facility experience including documentation requirements for GMP manufacturing facilities such as Change Control and Validation. Experience with structured problem solving or related approaches. Familiarity with troubleshooting plant automation systems (Allen-Bradley PLCs) as well as electrical controls and instrumentation.
