Medical Science Liaison Team Lead

Labcorp Oncology believes in harnessing science to improve health and the lives of people with cancer. Over the last 25 years, Labcorp has played a historic role in launching some of the hallmark diagnostic testing for the treatment of cancer, including HER2, PD-L1, EGFR, BRAF, ALK, RET, and others.

The Medical Science Liaison Team Lead role is field based and focused on leading a team of Field Medical professionals. Direct reports will include Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Senior MSLs.

The MSL team lead will be responsible for oversight of MSLs and Senior MSLs in support of Labcorp Oncology.

Essential Duties

  • Ensure MSL team’s ability to develop and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Thought Leaders, appropriate health care providers, and access stakeholders within a given geography to answer scientific and/or oncology-related questions
  • Support and evaluate the MSLs & Senior MSLs ability to: effectively present information, be medically accurate, respond to questions, and provide medical/scientific expertise to support clinical decision-making.
  • Ensure MSL team compliance with local procedures, ethical and legal guidelines and directives
  • Support the initial and ongoing medical/scientific teams through supervision of MSL team’s oversight of scientific advisory boards, execution of publication strategy, and development of relevant content including scientific, marketing, and educational materials
  • Promote employee development; provide coaching and direction as part of active management
  • Actively assess the medical landscape by meeting with Thought Leaders to understand their needs and expertise
  • Continuously update own knowledge in treatment strategies, products, unmet medical needs, clinical trials and scientific activities
  • Understand the competitive landscape and actively prepare MSL team to address informational needs of customers
  • Ensure active support for CRO sponsored studies as agreed with medical management and as defined by the study scope document
  • Actively participate in the cross-functional Medical Matrix Teams
  • Contribute to development and delivery of scientifically meaningful medical programs/projects
  • Contribute to and support ongoing customer improvement initiatives
  • Provide key scientific updates and education to internal stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in oncology, precision-medicine or genetics-related field
  • 7+ years of work experience as a Medical Science Liaison (or comparable role) in a diagnostic, biotech, pharmaceutical, or other life sciences company
  • Familiarity with CLIA, LDT, Sunshine Act (2013), FDA, and AdvaMed Guidelines
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience training and teaching others
  • Track record of disease-specific subject matter expertise with respect to precision-medicine in oncology

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD, PharmD, or MD in oncology, precision-medicine, or genetics-related field
  • 10+ years of work experience as a Medical Science Liaison (or comparable role) in a diagnostic, biotech, pharmaceutical, or other life sciences company
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical diagnostic landscape and how data is used to guide clinical management of oncology patients
  • Experience in team management
  • Prior success building field support programs
  • Residing in or plan to relocate to assigned geography
