Research Scientist, Neuro Stem Cell Disease Modeling, Neuroscience (338899BR)

Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

Job Description Approximately 1 billion people suffer from neurological disorders including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia. The Neuroscience department at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) has a mission to alleviate patients’ suffering by treating these and other diseases of the central nervous system (CNS).

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Neuroscience Early Target Discovery unit to help develop human disease models and aid in target discovery and validation for a broad range of CNS disorders. You will be joining an innovative and multidisciplinary team encompassing stem cell scientists, genomics experts, and computational biologists to develop cutting-edge human cellular models and beyond. Your expertise and contributions in stem cell biology and complex cellular model development will allow us to test drug discovery hypotheses, identify patient phenotypes, and discover new targets.

Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain cultures of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs)
• Differentiation of hPSCs into CNS cell types such as neurons, astrocytes, and microglia
• Develop disease relevant co-culture systems (2D or 3D) to support drug discovery programs
• Develop cellular and biochemical assays for screening as well as target validation
• Employ in-house established differentiation protocols and CRISPR technologies to support neuroscience projects
• Analyze, interpret, and communicate scientific data with project teams
• Track and register human cell lines, and thoroughly document experiments in an electronic lab notebook
• Ability to work on-site
