What You Will Achieve

As a member of the Pfizer Digital Safety Creation Center the role leads a team of Safety Creation Center colleagues (and contractors) to create, configure and integrate all core technology solutions to digitize, optimize and re-engineer business operations to achieve strategic imperatives and benefits and to maintain the highest levels of quality and regulatory requirements. This role will be a member of the Safety Creation Center LT.

The Worldwide Safety (WWS) business functions in scope for this role are:

  • Product Safety Intake, Processing, Surveillance & Reporting
  • WWS Global Drug Safety Units
  • Regional WWS Hubs & Clusters

The role is accountable for flawless implementation of new solutions and systems, support the operations of the systems, systems lifecycle management and provide leadership and guidance to technologists across the organization. The role will articulate the core solution vision, values and strategy to achieve a competitive advantage and to identify opportunities for differentiating Pfizer through core capabilities, services and solutions that focus on patients and outcomes, and leads the industry in adopting novel data, technology and digital solutions.

How You Will Achieve It

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Leadership - Active direct leadership of approximately five colleagues and 25+ indirect team members in an agile and fast-paced environment that adroitly embraces change, balances competing priorities and incorporates learnings
  • Lead and manage a technology project portfolio of multiple global critical solutions, systems, tools or platforms for Worldwide Safety (WWS)
  • Transform architectural and business concepts and requirements into robust technology designs and engineering configurations to deliver sustainable, core solutions for transactions, data management and analytics core solutions.
  • Work closely with Client Partner organization to understand digital strategy and associated project requirements.
  • Lead, oversee and contribute to matrix project teams including other Digital functions, service providers and external partners to deliver business value and achieve objectives.
  • Apply both direct supervision and indirect influence to achieve desired outcomes. Accountable to WWS business leaders for commitments and measured outcomes.
  • Escalation path for all Safety solutions delivery issues per scope of specific project and system portfolios
  • Lead and collaborate with Product Managers and Application Support service providers to identify and improve systems, processes and services to meet service levels and business continuity needs to maintain the highest levels of quality, inspections and audit readiness including representing Worldwide Safety systems for audit and inspection interviews.
  • Applies a deep understanding of engineering, software development and technology management of solutions, tools and platforms.
  • Promote ideas and innovations for core solutions by taking measured risks and articulating the vision and plan to achieve desired outcomes such as reducing operational cycle times, bringing medicines to the world faster and seeking opportunities to improve patient safety.
  • Mentor and guide colleagues in completing their assigned work and to grow their digital and cloud computing capabilities. Coach colleagues for individual development planning.
  • Influence and communicate effectively new or complex ideas using varied tools and techniques to influence different audiences across organizations and stakeholders.
  • Responsible for a portfolio for multiple Worldwide Safety business lines with multiple projects (~5 to 20) and solutions (~10 to 50) with financial responsibility ranging from $500K-$20M in the execution of project delivery, engineering and implementation. Significant technical and data diversity (cloud, hosting, services, analytics, database, compute, cyber security, privacy and data aggregation, management and protection).
  • Responsible to understand and follow all Pfizer policies, procedures, and Digital Solution Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and work instructions.
  • The Worldwide Safety solutions in scope include:
    • Argus (Reporting Rules, E2B, Upgrades, Integrations), Reportum, PfAST (+ supporting tools), , MYRA, DIDE, CAETELIST, EUDRA Vigilance, SCOS-PRO, CSI TAG
QualificationsMust-Have - Basic Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with evaluating and introducing emerging technology (digital, robotics, analytics, etc.) to accelerate innovation in Worldwide Safety (WWS) processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the Oracle Argus application with the ability to speak clearly and from a point of experience with Safety business clients regarding the Oracle Argus Safety application and all of its components
  • Demonstrated experience with executing Oracle Argus technology projects inclusive of Oracle Argus upgrade
  • Deep understanding of the engineering, development, implementation and management of information technology solutions, tools and platforms.
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Management or related field and 10+ years relevant technical experience.
  • 10 years’ experience as an information technology professional in one or many roles such as an architect, software developer, systems administrator, business partner, database administrator, systems engineer, computer engineer or support specialist.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large technology projects from beginning to value realization. Demonstrated capabilities with software development processes, systems design and development management, testing (unit, system, end user acceptance, performance, and load) and systems integration
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of colleagues and other team members to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Demonstrated domain knowledge and experience in Worldwide Safety / Pharmacovigilance processes.
  • Experience and understanding of existing and emerging healthcare industry data standards.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high energy environment and comfort with operating in situations with ambiguity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to synthesize scientific information and create clear updates for senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing financials, budgets and project forecasts, and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Capabilities to act tactically and think strategically, and switch leadership styles to influence, guide and coach individuals and teams.

Nice-to-Have - Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading and influencing a matrix team of 20 plus members in a complex organization with multiple senior stakeholders to achieve outcomes at an enterprise or global scale.
  • Ability to synthesize and organize numerous, complex requests to prioritize requirements, functions and features for greatest business value and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Demonstrated decision making capabilities for technologies, implementation priorities, resource management, make versus buy, suppliers and stakeholder requests.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to indirectly influence key partners and stakeholders with clear, concise and well-formed message tailored to the audience.

Organizational Relationships

  • Strong partnership with the Pfizer Digital Client Partners, Product Managers, Enterprise Architects, Digital Solutions Enablement, Enterprise Solutions, Connected Workplace, Search, Cyber Security, Procurement, Portfolio/Finance Leads and Risk Management Teams.
  • Close partnership with Safety Solutions Information Management (IM) organization, the WWS leadership team and stakeholders, and as appropriate WWS core solution end users.
  • Working relationship with Digital’s primary suppliers for software, solutions, resources and consulting.

Resources Managed - Financial Accountability

  • Financial scope of approximately $500K to $20M expenditures depending on project and solution portfolio and number of core production solutions.
  • This individual will manage an internal team budget focused on compensation, travel and expense, training and contractors.

Resources Managed - Supervision

  • Supervises approximately 3 to 5 direct reports, plus approximately 15 to 25 supplier team members. Indirect influence across many other functions with large program teams of approximately 30 people.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills by displaying an understanding of the needs and perspective of others.
  • Able to balance the workload of team members and supervise individuals of varying abilities.
  • Able to identify the talents of others and match them to the tasks that will best suit the unit goals and/or provide growth for the individual.
  • Able to assess and identify employee development opportunities and work with team members to establish their development plans
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of staff performance evaluations and development planning. Recruits and retains effective staff members.
  • Manage and / or oversee the contingent workers and consultant staff who support the Safety Core Solutions portfolio of systems. This will consist mostly of indirect influencing with some direct supervision of other resources and holding the managed services partners accountable to the services they provide.
