Bristol-Myers Squibb’s newest R&ED site located in Summit West is in the heart of a vibrant ecosystem of world-class science, innovation, and business opportunities. The Immunology, Cardiovascular and Fibrosis Thematic Research Center (ICF TRC) is focused on discovering and developing novel therapeutics to treat inflammatory, cardiovascular, and fibrotic diseases. The Translational Early Development group within the ICF-TRC is seeking a creative, thoughtful, and highly motivated immunologist to join our vibrant and cohesive team. Together, we will generate hypotheses for patient segmentation, develop critical assays to evaluate target engagement and pharmacodynamics of our new drugs in patients, and provide a better understanding of target biology in disease.

Position Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced translational Immunologist with expertise in pathology/digital spatial profiling to support biomarker development for Translational Early Development. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative translational scientist. The successful candidate will provide pathology and assay development support for pathology biomarker plans, with an ultimate focus on novel targets for autoimmune diseases.

In the role as a Sr. Scientist within Translational Early Development team, the ideal candidate:

  • Apply established and innovative translational pathology techniques (e.g., histology, RNAScope, mIF, DSP) to address translational immunology questions such as biomarker identification and validation to provide rationale for patient stratification hypotheses
  • Perform histological, protein, and transcript slide-based assays, working with human samples in various formats including FFPE/fresh frozen tissue, microarrays, and cell pellets
  • Utilize advanced automation for assay development and troubleshooting across IHC, IF, ISH, and multiplex applications for fit-for-purpose experimentation for translational biomarker efforts
  • Utilize microscopy and digital pathology methods for review and analysis; Acquire images and utilize image analysis software for algorithm generation (HALO). Experience with multiplex/phenotypic analysis desired
  • Maintain histology lab and sample storage with use of integrated biospecimen tracking system (LIMS)
  • Participate in multidisciplinary projects and teams and integrate cross-functional information.

Desired Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D.
  • 6-8 years of academic and / or industry experience preferred
  • 2-3 years of postdoc experience suggested

Special Qualifications for this role:

  • Relevant biopharma industry or academic experience using histopathological techniques to help inform pre-clinical/ early clinical program decisions required.
  • Strong skill set in developing and implementing immunohistochemistry methodologies from antibody screening and selection, staining optimization, pre-analytical variable assessment to downstream digital and imaging strategies, with data dissemination and evaluation capabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of experimental design, and technical laboratory skills (including cell culture, microtomy, immunoassays, protein signaling, qPCR technology platforms, flow cytometry is preferred) together with an ability to interpret results
  • Demonstrated ability to handle several projects at any given time and to work successfully and collaboratively on teams
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present data
  • Willingness to work in a fast paced highly collaborative cross functional research team environment
