COVID Antiviral At-Home Strategy & Partnerships Lead
At Pfizer Hospital, we are committed to delivering breakthroughs that change patients’ lives, with HBU impacting 200M patients globally as in 2021. In the face of COVID-19, this call is more urgent than ever given our protease inhibitor, oral PAXLOVID, has been developed at “light-speed” and is currently provided under Emergency Use authorization for the treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in adults and in some markets pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg) with positive results of direct severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) viral testing, and who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death. Ensuring PAXLOVID is available to as many patients that need it will require us to work with agility with governments, society and stakeholders as they combat current and future COVID surges. We are partnering with governments around the world regarding supply agreements for PAXLOVID, with several agreements already in place.
This role will lead a team responsible for identifying and establishing strategic, innovative partnerships (e.g., with Truepill, Amazon) that will enable holistic, end-to-end covid care providing detection, care, and treatment direct to the patient. These partnerships will enable seamless journey across testing, diagnosis, treatment start and monitoring at home. In addition, these partnerships can explore additional indications (potential pre-exposure prophylaxis, etc) pending regulatory approval).
This position will report directly to the Global COVID Antiviral Franchise team lead. Ability to work in an agile environment (internal and external) with tight coordination /input across Patient & Health Impact, Payer & Channel Access, Digital, Business Analytics & Insights, Corp Affairs, Legal and BD. Coordinating closely with the Comirnaty team on our overall COVID strategy. This leader will operate in an environment that requires agility, ability to see patterns and convert to proposed approaches, high organizational awareness to ‘get things done’ and modeling lightspeed behaviors. This role requires new thinking in how we partner with external stakeholders and internal partners to redefine accelerating treatments directly to patients different than typical channel dynamics.
The COVID Antiviral @ Home Strategy and Partnerships Lead will lead a team to achieve the following:
Develop Paxlovid strategy for direct-to-home patient channels
Focus on the overall patient/customer experience from end-to-end
Understand key patient insights and unmet needs from consumer US market research, working closely with PAXLOVID US Marketing team and BAI.
Develop a view of the challenges along the patient journey (e.g., awareness/detection, diagnosis, choice of treatment, treatment delivery and access, monitoring of impact), and an external-facing value proposition for PAXLOVID partnership to address these challenges.
Outline what patient challenges should be addressed by Pfizer with internal (or acquired) capabilities vs in partnerships externally, in both the immediate term and long term
Develop and maintain the overall GTM and partnership strategy for PAXLOVID focused on at-home care and innovative direct-to-home patient channels, in alignment with Pfizer Corporate Affairs as appropriate
Collaborate with Public Affairs to track legislation state-by-state, which impacts customer channels and changes approaches as needed, based on governing laws and regulations
Identify and engage external partners
Rapidly identify a holistic set of innovative partner(s), assess the capabilities of partners, interdependencies across the patient journey with other potential vendors, and fit for the overall Paxlovid strategy.
Engage and understand partner needs through prioritized/senior customer engagement at a C-Suite level as well as business stakeholders/ vendors.
Select and advocate for partnerships that that will deliver on the opportunities identified for patients across different channel(s) along the patient journey for immediate impact/implementation in ‘22 and beyond (both partners/vendors providing capabilities and partners that can help with broad consumer/patient reach from a go-to-market standpoint).
Build the value proposition to approach potential partners via a ‘pitch’ discussion , and have experience building dynamic business proposals that will lead to value creation for Pfizer, Patients and our Partners.
Engage with US Paxlovid marketing, Biopharma Regional Presidents supporting Paxlovid, payer marketing, and other customer facing channels for pull through, resource creation.
Partner cross functionally and track key performance metrics
Partner with Business Analytics & Insights group to ensure that all efforts are measurable to inform continuous improvement, partnership/channel investment decisions and potential scale-ups
Closely coordinate with the other Biopharma teams across the business units to maximize Pfizer at home strategies and partnerships overall.
Partner alongside payer channel account management to support the outlined access strategy for Paxlovid and pull-through dynamics
Share US integrated solutions and learnings with Global Paxlovid Marketing/ IDM and EM for pull through of Paxlovid strategy.
18+ years pharmaceutical, Biotech, or retail pharmacy experience with at least 5+ years in a promoted position with demonstrated leadership experience.
BA/BS Degree required. MBA or advanced degree in a related field preferred.
B2B preferred in the healthcare sector
Clear understanding, commitment and experience delivering exceptional customer experiences
Comfortable working in uncharted territory
Strong knowledge and experience in US channels including retail, home delivery/online pharmacies, direct to home, other
Documented ability to lead innovation and develop / execute partnership to build on business opportunities and organizational capabilities
Preference given to candidates with experience in pharmacy/ home delivery/ telehealth channels
Demonstrated success in highly fast-paced setting managing a team of diverse colleagues in multi-disciplinary positions
Demonstrated senior commercial, marketing and/or pharmacy /retail role, including experience in high profile account management, marketing, strategy, operations.
