Senior Clinical R&D Engineer – Electrophysiology

St Paul, MN or Plymouth, MN

What you will do:

As a Senior R&D Engineer at our Plymouth, MN or St. Paul, MN location, you will be part of our Electrophysiology (EP) product development team focused on delivering the future in diagnostic, imaging, and ablation therapy catheters and EP capital equipment. This role will involve a range of responsibilities including but not limited to requirement development, testing and data analysis, and test method development and validation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interact with project teams and functional groups to plan and execute bench and preclinical studies that support product concept feasibility, development, formal regulatory submission, and claims substantiation

  • Draft study protocols for preclinical feasibility studies and design validation studies

  • Draft reports summarizing the studies and associated data analysisOperate EP and OR laboratory equipment to facilitate execution of preclinical studies

  • Responsible for driving validation plans against user needs. Responsible for helping craft clinically relevant test cases.

  • Develop expertise in the scientific, technical, medical, and clinical aspects of Abbott’s EP devices and systems and their uses to treat cardiac arrhythmias

  • Successfully influence stakeholders. Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors

  • Innovate within program work to improve the organization and solve technical challenges

  • Understand and work within the quality and regulatory requirements of Abbott, FDA and other regulatory agencies

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, biological sciences, medical/clinical science or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in medical devices

  • Experience working within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization

  • Proficient in collaborating with project stakeholders (client and internal), end-users, business partners, and technical team members

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail

  • Ability to plan, execute, analyze, and document individual scientific studies

  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data using statistical methods

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering

  • Possesses baseline clinical knowledge of cardiac function

  • Biostatistical analysis experience

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a geographically diverse, matrixed organization
