The Quality Data Science Director will be a pivotal member and leader of Amgen’s comprehensive Quality Transformation program enabling Amgen to continue delivering on its mission to serve patients amidst an increasingly dynamic and competitive landscape. As a senior Data Science leader, you will deliver data and insights that drive decision-making, execution, and investments for our Quality initiatives which span Amgen’s enterprise (Operations, R&D, and Commercial). The digital transformation will be multi-faceted; successful deployment will include end-to-end process simplification and the development of a digital ecosystem to seamlessly integrate data flows across the enterprise.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a small hard-working team of data scientists, supporting professional development and career growth of Amgen’s key talent while helping advance Amgen Quality’s digitals transformation strategy
Set a compelling vision and prioritize work based on product strategies and company goals
Support rapid assessment of opportunities to quickly test hypotheses, quantify value, refine scope, and facilitate development and endorsement of robust business cases
Work cross-functionally to influence product strategies and roadmaps, and help build a data-informed decision-making culture
Coach and mentor the team to define and drive the end-to-end process: scope projects, build pipelines and datasets, synthesize results, and support solution development
Partner and align with cross-functional counterparts, including IS/DTI data engineering, to author and develop core data sets and empower operational and exploratory analysis
Work closely with our Operations Digital Strategy & Capabilities “hub” organization to align on tools, best practices, and approaches
Monitor and evaluate external trends and cross-industry benchmarks to help shape ongoing transformation and technology roadmap

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 4 years of engineering, data analytics, or software development experience
Or
Master’s degree and 8 years of engineering, data analytics, or software development experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of engineering, data analytics, or software development experience
And
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resource
Preferred Qualifications:
12+ years of experience/research in data science, analytics, and algorithms for biotech or related tech industries
2+ years of experience in a managerial role, directly managing data scientists
Ability to build clear and concise presentations, and communicate effectively at every level of the organization
Advanced degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Physics)
Expertise in advanced analytics and associated capabilities (e.g., AI, ML, pattern recognition, cloud-base application deployment, data lake / data fabric)
In-depth hands-on experience with analytical tools (e.g., Python/R, Tableau, SQL, data visualization, data pipeline tools)
Proven experience with using data and analytics solutions to drive operational efficiencies
Experience in leading a data analytics team with the medical device or similar regulated industry
Experience in post-market surveillance, complaint investigations, combination product and device regulations
Demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to large, digital transformation programs and collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional matrixed teams
Ability to communicate and collaborate across all areas of Amgen, to include Operations, R&D, and Commercial partners
Consistently delivers on-time, and high-quality results aligned with ambition and business commitments
Experience in application development, application lifecycle management, and Agile development methodologies
Robust and pragmatic problem-solving approach with ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems
Champion of Amgen values and leadership attributes; patient-centric approach
