Amgen is seeking a Senior Manager to serve as the primary Digital, Technology, and Innovation (DTI) leader for the Clinical Statistical Computing platform and Center for Design and Analysis (CfDA). The selected candidate will work with Global Statistical Programming, Center for Design and Analysis, Clinical Study Analysis and Reporting, Center for Observational Research, and Process Development business organizations. We seek a people and technical leader with a passion for innovation, a collaborative working style and partners effectively with business leaders and across the broader DTI organization. This leader will be responsible for implementing and advancing the IS strategy in the Clinical Data, Security, and Computing Domain.

  • Responsible for delivery of innovative technology and data solutions for the clinical computing platform and clinical data analytics.
  • Strong partnership with CfDA to advance digital roadmap for Clinical Modelling and Simulation, Clinical Standards, and Clinical Data Science and Evidence Generation.
  • Coach and develop staff by serving as role models for Amgen's leadership behaviors.
  • Build and advance a Product Team-based approach to drive business and digital strategy.
  • Champion adoption of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Agile Release Train Methodology as an operating model.
  • Advance the IS strategy for Clinical Statistical Computing with business differentiated platforms and technology capabilities
  • Advance the IS strategy by delivering innovative solutions using R, Python, AWS, Databricks, and other new technologies for statistical computing
  • Drive transformation of the SAS Grid ecosystem and CfDA applications to adopt modern computing, storage, and security model
  • Accountable along with Amgen Service Providers to ensure 24x7 availability of critical applications
  • Provide leadership in defining technical and process improvements with many business groups, DTI, and vendors to plan and implement City planning for the future (ecosystem rationalization, cloud adoption, Cloud adoption, etc.)
  • Interact with business clients, DTI management, and suppliers to lay out a technology roadmap, build business cases, oversee projects to achieve the roadmap, and provide vendor oversight
  • Partner with business and technology teams to elicit, analyze, translate, and document business requirements into technical requirements and solutions
  • Responsible for leading key client relationships that are essential for the capability that this role will support
  • Handle vendor, service costs, requirements elicitation, and documentation, market/vendor analysis, identification, and management of risks
  • Travel as needed to Corporate office in Thousand Oaks CA

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience


Master’s degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience


Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience


Associate’s degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience


2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • More than ten years of demonstrated experience with professional management of IS organizations and ability to manage for / measure results
  • Experience leading Global Team in Agile Environment
  • Experience and demonstration of organizational transformation and change management skills
  • Demonstrated track record of delivery of IS solutions that yield measurable business results
  • Ability to build compelling business cases with accurate cost and effort estimations
  • Solid grasp of business complexity and program interdependencies
  • Build a multi-functional alliance to advance technical innovation to deliver business value
  • Ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts to non-technical clients
  • Analytical skills and techniques to evaluate, interpret and resolve sophisticated situations/problems using multiple sources of information
  • Knowledge of SAS GRID architecture, Real-world data, Clinical trial data, analytics, and visualization solutions to drive digital strategy
  • Understanding of SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) methodologies
  • Experience leading regulated systems in regulated industry
  • Experience in GxP validation
