The Orals Manufacturing department operates a number of blending, granulation and tableting processes to produce both Penicillin bulk material and tablets intermediate for onward processing at third party facilities or at GSK Worthing packing operations.

The Operations Support Manager is responsible for a department of approx. 30 staff (who are operating on a 24/5-shift pattern). This role works on a standard work-pattern (during the day).

Job Purpose:

Reporting into the Orals Manufacturing Operations Manager, the purpose of the role is to identify, implement and support operational improvements that deliver competitive advantage for the Value Stream (aligned to site objectives and priorities) whilst ensuing focus on safety, quality and compliance is maintained.

As OSM you will have up to 6 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities (include):

  • Identify and implement operational improvements that deliver competitive advantage for the Value Stream, aligned to site objectives and priorities
  • Identify best practice to determine where to focus improvement activities
  • To act as the production representative for project activity delivered within the area of responsibility, providing user requirements, managing production deliverables, and liaising directly with project managers
  • Lead and ensure that compliance and governance processes in the area are robust and supported, and where relevant to manage the Compliance Coordinator
  • Lead and ensure that the production aspects of Supply Chain Planning processes are in place, in use and effective
  • Coach team members at all levels of the Value Stream to deliver excellence and continuous improvement through the GPS
  • Act as deputy to Manufacturing Unit Manager where necessary

About You:

This role will suit a driven self-motivated individual who is able to effectively multi-task and prioritise and has experience of working in a complex GMP manufacturing site. An ability to lead others to solve complex problems and develop solutions will be vital. You will be resilient and calm under pressure, with strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve objectives and drive performance. You will have a strong continuous improvement mindset and an equally strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) procedures concerning quality and safety.

About Worthing Manufacturing Site:

Manufacturing at the Worthing site is for antibiotics both in the sterile and oral form. It is advised that you take this into consideration when deciding to apply for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications and / or experience.
  • Required to demonstrate competence in current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of leading a team within a manufacturing site.
  • Scientific or Engineering degree (or strong equivalent experience)
  • Operational knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes (including cGMP) in a pharmaceutical environment.
