The Scientist I– Chemical and Physical Product Testing will work within a team focused on chemical and physical testing of solutions and materials to support routine manufacturing and engineering projects. The position will report to a chemistry supervisor or manager.
Sample handling and sample/standard preparation
Perform wet chemistry testing to support incoming chemicals/materials per USP methodologies.
Support for routine manufacturing and internal product development using analytical instrumentation such as TOC, DSC, FT-IR, and HPLC in high-throughput environment.
Execution and documentation of work adhering to good documentation practices (GDP), good laboratory practices (GLP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Support test method development and validation
Support investigational analysis on medical devices and components
Perform daily verifications of balances, pH meter, and Milli-Q water systems.
Maintain lab equipment due for monthly calibration (pipettes, thermometers, timers).
Ensure laboratory cleanliness is maintained and chemical inventory is well stocked.
Follow Abbott Quality Policy by adhering to documented Standard Operating Procedures and work Instructions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
BA or BS in chemistry
Experience with routine laboratory/wet chemistry work
Experience with lab equipment and analysis
Ability to perform standard mathematic/statistical calculations in Microsoft Excel
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge and application of good documentation GDP, GLP, and GMP
Ability to follow direction and be effective with some supervision
Knowledge and application of Microsoft suite of applications
2 years experience working in a chemistry lab setting
Experience with TOC, DSC, FT-IR, HPLC
Experience documenting laboratory work in electronic/paper notebook system according to GMP guidelines.
Experience with Empower software and LabVantage LIMS software.
Possess strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in fast-moving environment where priorities frequently change.
Working in lab environment with proper safety equipment.
Working with common laboratory chemicals and biological tissue.
Working while sitting and /or standing.
