The Immuno-Oncology & Combinations Research Unit (IOC RU) within the GSK Oncology organization is seeking an Associate Director (team leader) with management experience and a strong background in cancer immunology/immunotherapy.

The Associate Director will manage and develop a talented team of lab-based scientists that work on a range of activities including: expand state-of-the-art in vitro and ex vivo assay capabilities at a growing GSK site, leading scRNAseq activities, development of in vitro immune cell-based assays that recapitulate disease-relevant biology and target validation. In addition, you will apply your expertise in immuno-oncology drug discovery to take on matrix leadership of key drug discovery activities in the RU (potential examples include leading the biology on a preclinical/clinical programme and leading target identification efforts through scRNA seq and leading target validation activities).

Applying a translational mindset, you will cultivate and work in a dynamic and collaborative environment to interrogate mechanisms of action and pharmacology of novel therapeutics, supporting GSK’s diverse immuno-oncology pipeline from early discovery to first-time-in-human commitment.

This is an exciting team leader role in a dynamic global matrix team environment that will allow the successful candidate to have a critical contribution to our efforts to identify and progress novel drug opportunities for immuno-oncology at GSK.

You will need to be a strong scientist with a focus on high quality and delivery. Additionally, we are looking for someone who is independent, creative, pro-active, has a passion for developing others and embody a truth-seeking and inclusive culture.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in immuno-oncology, biology or related field
  • Minimum of three years of successful line management, including development of direct reports.
  • Five or more years of experience in immunology or immuno-oncology drug discovery research.

  • Experience leading matrix teams in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry research setting.
  • Computational biology experience is ideal.
  • Track record of scientific leadership and delivery, preferably in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, problem-solving skills including critical and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to prioritize, present in an organized and concise manner, manage time efficiently, and implement creative solutions to meet program needs.
  • Commitment to continual improvement by reading and applying the latest scientific literature, methodologies and technologies.
  • A high level of integrity and desire to develop transformational medicines that bring benefit to patients.
