We are seeking a Lead Scientist for our Genomics group to provide leadership in support of our Central Labs.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Provides managerial leadership to the local team staff.
Communicates the goals and strategy of LCLS to the team.
Ensures that an adequate number of trained and competent staff is available to match the workload requirements of the team.
Contribute to meeting established quality measures and on time responses to quality issues.
Provides support, as required, to the local department leader (director or associate director) and assists in the fulfillment of his/her responsibilities.
Mentors and provides consultation to scientific and operational staff on technical issues.
Assists operational leaders with converting scientific theory into laboratory operational practices/capabilities.
Ensures the effective scientific performance of assays through regular monitoring and evaluation of the assays.
Collaborates with operational leaders to evaluate and assess new technology and new assay capabilities.
Contributes to long-term planning and technical policies of the department.
May provide technical training for scientific and operational staff.
Provides technical/scientific consultation to departments outside the lab (i.e. Project Management) to assist with client issues and problem solving.
Effectively manages scientific vendor relationships to troubleshoot issues and improve capabilities.
Regularly reads literature related to scientific area of expertise to remain current in knowledge.
Attend meetings, conferences, symposia, and seminars to promote CLS’s capabilities with dedicated scientific area.
Supports process improvement initiatives.
Ensures quality and timely delivery of new assays performance.
Recruits, trains and monitor the technical training, develops and retains sufficient staff resources for the local team.
Converts workload forecasts into specific personnel resource needs and works with the department director (or local associate director) and to secure necessary and appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Leads and sponsors major client visits. o Interacts with clients and prospective clients to discuss technical/scientific issues, ensure effective communication and maintain relationships.
Assists in marketing new capabilities.
Presentations to clients and professional groups.
Minimum Experience Required:
Five (5) years of experience within scientific area of expertise.
Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Highly skilled in conduction research, data interpretation, and writing reports.
Proven track record of analytical method development.
Skilled in performing scientific presentation and preparing scientific publications.
Knowledge of clinical laboratory automation, system software, Microsoft applications, and laboratory statistics.
Effective communications skills with technical staff business development staff, peers, and clients.
Addition to detail and interpretation of scientific data.
Demonstrated problem prevention, detection and resolution.
Ph.D. or M.S. with additional experience, in scientific area of expertise.
