Global Category Senior Manager-Drug Development - US remote
The Global Category Strategic Sourcing Senior Manager will report into the Development Sourcing Director within Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS). Role will be responsible for developing sourcing strategy, leading supplier selection and supplier relationship management for various Development categories (~$200M) spend supporting Development organization. The Senior Manager will be accountable to understand business strategy and then develop a comprehensive, long term, category strategy which will deliver maximum value to Amgen internal customers, shareholders, and patients in this spend category.STRATEGIC CONTRIBUTION
Serves as the category leader and market expert in this category(ies) for the company
Develops strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key internal stakeholders to understand internal needs and strategies
Develops deep supplier relationships and expert understanding of the supply market
Collaboratively creates a multi-year strategy for the category(ies) that will delivery year over year productivity
Leads the Supplier and Source selection process for the category(ies)
Provides leadership in establishing supplier segmentation and supports the Supplier Relationship Management process
Provides subject matter advice to internal and external stakeholder groups addressing current/future business needs, demonstrating marketplace knowledge
Acts as a trusted business advisor, providing thought leadership and consistent customer service
Leads the contracting process and strategy for the related supply base.
Leads and influences stakeholder groups with sound and articulate business case recommendations (i.e. make vs. buy strategy) with quantifiable financial benefits
Ability to effectively communicate strategies, drive decisions and challenge stakeholders
Champion of Productivity efforts within the category(ies)
DELIVERING VALUE FOR CUSTOMERS
Owns the category management process and the frame-work and set of practices used to optimally
Acts as an ambassador for the GSS function and be the key point of contact for the category, both within and outside of GSS
Effectively drives cross-category collaboration where ‘overlapping’ stakeholder groups, geographic regions and / or requirements exist
Manages, minimizes and mitigates supply/contractual/regulatory risk by leveraging other key Amgen functions where appropriate
Ability to develop and model multiple business cases to demonstrate the potential opportunities and impact of options across a category
Proven technical knowledge and business ability related to clinical trial management categories within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
Proven ability to use the Category Management process and ability to use relevant tools to develop strategic plans
Ability to develop baseline cost models to accurately represent current state and ability to build dynamic total cost of ownership models with multiple scenarios in order to evaluate and quantify value
Proficiency in MS Office tools (PowerPoint and excel), analytical tools, ERP systems etc.
CPM qualification (US) or CIPS qualification (UK) is desirable
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience
Master’s degree and 4 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Solid understanding of procurement/sourcing/category management methodology and able to drive value for customers leveraging fit-for-purpose sourcing levers
Drug Development experience
Excellent and disciplined project management and prioritization skills with ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
Ability to conform to shifting priorities and have ability to drive multiple simultaneous projects
Strong business acumen in order to quickly understand functional/category dynamics and develop category strategies that drive value
Proven ability to deliver complex multi-regional and/or global projects in a matrixed and global environment
Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer’s business context (e.g. supplier base, legal & regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)
Ability to understand external market information, including ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations
Ability to understand cost drivers, internal costs and future demand and re requirements
Ability to provide thought leadership, ability to influence and actively shape strategy
Strong financial acumen and problem-solving skills
