Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is making a substantial investment in deploying our Next Generation Manufacturing Execution System platform (MES Next Gen) into our internal manufacturing network. In order to drive the success of this program, we are expanding our network business team.

The MES Business Network Lead will lead a matrix team of manufacturing site MES business owners across the Biologics and Pharma operating units. This role will enable successful implementation and sustained benefits of the MES Next Gen enterprise system, by building a strong network of site business owners and adoption of effective processes, tools, and procedures. This position reports to the Associate Director, Advance Manufacturing Automation within Manufacturing Science & Technology.

This position will partner closely with site business owners to support development of system requirements for MES Next Gen deployment and then provide leadership on common business processes to ensure sustainability of the system. The role will represent the voice-of-the-customer from stakeholders in Operations, MS&T, Quality, and Supply Chain when working with enterprise and site-based IT teams, to ensure that MES Next Gen meets the Business needs and the goals of the multi-site deployment program.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate and support development of functional requirements for enterprise system objects. Review and approve design documentation and testing.
  • Enable streamlined site deployment by supporting site teams with organisational change management, user acceptance testing, and roll out of user training.
  • Establish business process to manage site change requests that impact enterprise components. Build cross site alignment on change requirements and prioritization. Fulfil procedural IT requirements for life cycle management where required. Chair governance meetings to manage process at the required cadence.
  • Owner of Common Recipe Template Library. Ensure procedures are in place for secure storage and ready access to Recipe Templates. Provide consultation to new MES deployment site teams and New Product Introduction teams on use of Templates. Set up business process for definition and lifecycle management of new Recipe Templates.
  • Ensure standard practices for Process Flow Map document generation and/or other future Functional Specification documentation across the manufacturing network.
  • Facilitate the adoption and application of BMS Balanced Automation Framework in Manufacturing Operations, Quality Assurance, and IT MES-enabling teams across the Biologics and Pharma network. Chair meetings at required cadence to support adoption and sustained benefit of the Balanced Automation framework.
  • Define a common approach and scope for business user configuration of recipe changes in the Sirius recipe authoring tool. Establish and maintain Community of Practice for Sirius business users. Define suitable change management process for business owned changes and level of collaboration with IT.
  • Manage cross site evolution of business processes.
  • Own and develop cross site SOPs and WI for use of MES and associated tools.
  • End user training on cross-site elements of the MES Next Gen program.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Life Science
  • 5+ years’ experience in GMP manufacturing or supporting Organisation
  • Working knowledge of MES required
  • Knowledge of ERP, Process Control and/or lab system an advantage
  • Requires the ability to effectively work with geographically dispersed stakeholders and project teams, influencing and leading across a matrix organization
  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and be an agent for change
  • Good organizational, project management and presentation skills; with the ability to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Self-motivated with a process improvement mindset and the ability to understand the big picture, but also break that down into smaller actionable steps

Up to 20% travel may be required to support this network role
