The Director, Ethics, Risk & Compliance (ERC) Patient Services Advisor will identify, assess, and support effective management of risks presented by Patient Specialty Services strategies across all US therapeutic areas and products and Novartis Patient Assistance Foundation (NPAF) to ensure execution of strategies is in compliance with applicable Novartis policies, procedures and CIA requirements. The Director, ERC Patient Services Advisor will clearly identify, assess and articulate risks as part of early concept discussions for novel and complex Patient Service strategies (e.g. customer experience center design) and recommend effective risk management when they are implemented. The ideal candidate is passionate about both enabling compliant Patient Services strategies and ensuring ERC guidance to Patient Services teams is clear and actionable.

The Director, ERC Patient Services Advisor may also be responsible for an assigned therapeutic area of focus and will engage with the Therapeutic Area General Manager or equivalent and related cross-functional leaders to ensure a holistic view of risks across the strategies leveraged for the assigned therapeutic area (key watch areas, what’s going well, etc.). The therapeutic area of focus may evolve periodically with the needs of the US organization.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Shape and clarify US Healthcare Compliance Policy applicable to Patient Specialty Services strategies (eg hub services and copay programs that impact all US affiliates (Innovative Medicines and Novartis Gene Therapies) and NPAF.
•Provide specialized ERC advice to Patient Services areas with high and/or emerging risks (e.g. customer experience center design) to assess risk in early concept discussions, discuss risk with business owners to achieve an aligned understanding, provide clear and actionable ERC advice on how to effectively mitigate such risks upon implementation, evaluate effectiveness of risk mitigation and document key milestones throughout the process.
•Effectively engage with Patient Services and NPAF leadership teams to ensure they have a holistic view of ERC risks presented in their strategies (key watch areas, what’s going well, etc.) and collaborate with Patient Services stakeholders (eg serve on Patient Services Governance processes) to ensure execution of Patient Services strategies is in compliance with applicable Novartis policies, procedures and CIA requirements.
•Proactively monitor evolving US healthcare environment, enforcement trends and compliance programs of other pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies, analyze with deep understanding of Patient Services and patient assistance strategies and applicable ERC policies to identify and share insights within ERC.
•Lead and develop the Associate Director, ERC Patient Services Advisor who will also provide specialized ERC guidance and support to Patient Services and NPAF teams.
•Be a knowledge expert related to Novartis healthcare compliance policies, procedures and CIA requirements and how they apply to associates’ roles and responsibilities throughout of the US organization.
•Collaborate with other ERC stakeholders (e.g. Risk Management Oversight, Operational Controls, CIA) to share anticipated innovative or complex Patient Services strategies, related risks and ERC guidance and develop aligned approach to Investigations, Monitoring and other ERC activities needed to address risks presented by such strategies.
•Proactively engage with Ops/Analytics teams supporting patient support programs and Patient Services teams to evaluate data to identify trends and proactively mitigate key and/or emerging risks
•Develop trusted relationships with associates of all levels of Patient Services teams to promote a SpeakUp culture and collaborate with Patient Services teams to strengthen a positive culture towards compliance and ethical decision making as an integral part of how we reimagine medicine for patients.
•Engage with Therapeutic Area General Manager and related cross-functional leaders to ensure a holistic view of risks across the strategies leveraged for assigned therapeutic area(s) (key watch areas, what’s going well, etc.) and ensure clear and actional ERC guidance is provided or seamless transition to the appropriate ERC stakeholder.
