Job Description

The Neuroscience Department is seeking a highly motivated and skilled scientist with a strong desire to pursue drug discovery for neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate will serve as a hands-on experimentalist responsible for designing, executing, and overseeing studies to support our central nervous system drug discovery efforts with a focus on neurodegenerative disorders. The candidate will have an expertise working with in vivo and in vitro model systems of neurodegenerative disorders to understand biomarkers of disease and target-related mechanisms. The primary responsibilities include the design and execution of studies to profile in vivo and ex vivo models of neurodegenerative disease, biochemical and histological assays to understand biomarkers of disease, target engagement and the mechanism of action of targets, and work well as a part of a collaborative team. The role will also require the ability to independently keep up with relevant scientific literature, implement new technical expertise and assay development, and be an active participant in the scientific dialogue in project meetings and internal/external scientific meetings.

Educational and experience requirements:

  • Degree in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related discipline:

  • Master’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant work experience or Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant work experience.

Required skills and experience

  • Broad subject matter expertise in neuroscience, neurodegenerative disease, proteinopathy, or related discipline

  • Ability to conceive, design, execute, and communicate complex experiments in the field of neuroscience as evidenced by a proven publication and presentation record

  • Experience with histological techniques including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, RNA Scope

  • Track record in microscopy and image acquisition and analysis

  • Experience with in vivo rodent assays including handling, dosing, models of neurodegenerative disease, behavioral assays of motor function, necropsy, and neuroanatomy.

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Subject matter expertise in biology and pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS)

  • Familiarity with digital pathology and imaging systems and software including Zeiss, Leica, and HALO software.

  • Proficiency with in vitro lab techniques including protein and/or mRNA extraction, measurement, and visualization

  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemical assays such as qPCR, Western blot, and ELISA etc.
