The Headquarters BD&L (Business Development & Licensing) Transactions group is responsible for supporting our Research & Development Division’s business development and licensing objectives. This entails leading a broad set of global transactions including: licensing, collaborations, and mergers & acquisitions at all stages, from pre-clinical through commercial. A critical part of this work is our support of our Company's Clinical Trial Collaborations, Enabling Technologies Transactions, and Discovery Transactions.

The Director – Transactions will lead the negotiation and execution of clinical-trial collaboration agreements in partnership with our Company's external collaborations organization. The incumbent will also negotiate a broad spectrum of transactions involving enabling and platform technologies and may also support transactions intellectual property rights in the discovery and preclinical stages across all therapeutic and functional areas with external academic, government, and industry partners worldwide. They will report to the Head of Clinical Collaborations. A candidate with less than the required level of directly relevant experience may be considered at the Associate Director level.

This is a multi-disciplinary role. The successful candidate will:

  • Have a high degree of scientific and business acumen

  • Have strong interpersonal skills

  • Be comfortable working with internal and external constituencies, and consistently represent our Company in the best possible light

  • Drive projects to completion in a timely fashion

  • Have an understanding of how to implement and manage complex business processes efficiently and effectively

  • Multi-task and prioritize while supporting a large number of projects

  • Have sound judgment and problem-solving skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a graduate degree in life sciences and/or an advanced degree in business or law is a plus

  • A minimum of 10 years professional work experience with at least 5 years in pharmaceutical or biotech roles directly responsible for negotiating and executing transactions

  • Experience in biotech and pharma transactions required

  • Understanding of scientific principles and the drug development process is recommended

  • Experience managing teams is helpful

  • Project team experience within a highly-matrixed organization is required
