This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure and contribute to the Research & Development engine that drives our Company’s biopharmaceutical business.

This Position is responsible for overall Financial Evaluations and Analysis for the Research & Development Division pipeline and performing asset valuations in support of the governance venues: Late Development Review Committee (LDRC) and Human Health Product Approval Committee (HHPAC) across all therapeutic areas (TA). The incumbent is also responsible for directly supporting Early Stage Development (ESD).

The position manages two professionals.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Global Human Health (GHH) and Our Manufacturing Division Finance to provide relevant financial materials for LDRC, HHPAC, annual study prioritization and general decision support.

  • Act as steward of the Research & Development Division valuation model, including making enhancements to processes and systems that support the model. Work with Our Research & Development Division and other Finance stakeholders to establish best practices. Support decision making by preparing and analyzing Net Present Value (NPV) business cases and other financial information for programs.

  • Collaborate with project leaders from Marketing, Our Manufacturing Division, Finance, Project Management, to understand valuation inputs, assumptions, variables and potential sensitivities and scenarios.

  • Lead the financial reporting, planning and analysis processes for Early Stage Development across all TAs including out of pocket forecasts, operating budgets, forecasting, closing, long-range planning cycle and governance process through Discovery and Translational Research Committee (DTRC).

  • Oversee the reporting and data management of pipeline valuation data, interpretation of third-party research related to Pharma R&D and accounting for In Process R&D (IPR&D) including impairment testing and tracking impacts to Contingent Liabilities ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Promote, support and monitor the use of Integrated Business Cases (IBC) throughout Our Research & Development Division .

  • Work closely with Our Research & Development Division and other finance areas to establish best practices and implement process improvements (including our partners in DPED and efforts towards Fortifying our Future).

  • Develop, coach and manage two direct reports.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Undergraduate Degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting or Science

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in Finance or an Operations role.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Strong Excel skills (intermediate level or above).

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to adjust your approach for working across clients with varying personalities and support needs.

  • Ability to influence decisions and convey the importance of financial stewardship within assigned client groups.

  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining client and peer relationships

  • Demonstrated experience in broad areas such as business administration, strategic planning and analysis, managing and allocating resources, and operational & financial planning and management

  • Ability to provide strategic direction

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Proactive approach to problem solving

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical development

  • Sound and balanced judgment, with the ability to assess and handle risk and be decisive

  • Experience with discounted cash flow analysis

  • BPC and SAP system experience
