Summary of the Group

In the Bioscience Cardiovascular department within Early CVRM, we focus on identifying and validating new drug targets for patients with cardiovascular disease and heart failure as well as evaluating pharmacological aspects, e.g. efficacy and mechanism of action, of new compounds crafted to hit these targets. The team delivers key data to projects across all phases of the drug discovery and development, and we work with different modalities such as stem cells, AAV, antibodies, small molecules, modified mRNA, antisense oligonucleotides and peptides.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Principal Scientist or Associate Principal Scientist to enhance our capabilities of gene and cell therapy for cardiovascular disease. The successful candidate will play a critical role responsible for target identification and validation. The selected individual will be a well-organized and a highly productive scientist that can analyze, interpret and present data to multidisciplinary project teams and upper management. You are also expected to collaborate effectively with other team members to advance pipeline projects.

  • Discovering and developing gene and/or cell therapies for patients and families devastated by cardiac diseases, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, or other cardiovascular conditions.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in scientific research on cardiovascular diseases.

  • Strong background in gene and cell therapy or other delivery platforms with characterizing vectors and gene-modified cell products. Experience in assessing vector potency with DNA- and RNA- based methods.

  • In vivo, in vitro and ex vivo characterization of gene therapy AAV vectors, cell engineering or other non-viral gene delivery platforms and cellular products as well as patient sample analysis.

  • Providing scientific support for research and development activities including preclinical studies and pharm/tox studies.

  • Experience with CRISPR screens and NGS method to characterize CRISPR editing efficiency and specificity.

Required Skills

  • Principal Scientist: Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in relevant scientific discipline with 10+ years of extensive experience in cardiovascular disease research and gene or cell therapy. Associate Principal Scientist: Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in relevant scientific discipline with 5+ years of extensive experience in in cardiovascular disease research and gene or cell therapy.

  • Expertise in gene and cell therapies in relevant area, including viral and non-viral gene delivery system, or regenerative and immune cell therapy in cardiovascular space.

  • Extensive experience in stem cell or immune cell therapy technology development, including gene delivery, genome editing, synthetic biology, chimeric receptor engineering and/or cell engineering; Proven capability to identify and develop new cell therapy applications.

  • A strong understanding of cardiovascular diseases including experience from in vivo models, in vitro assays and cell models.

  • Track record of strong problem solving and organizational skills, orientation to detail.

  • Strong motivation, ability to think independently and fully integrate into a high achieving team environment.

  • Strong publication record in gene and/or cell therapy and cardiovascular research area.

  • Track record in establishing high-level strategies for new technology development and applying new technologies in pharmaceutical development projects.

  • Excellent team player and team builder with good interpersonal skills; Proven ability to motivate, mentor and develop others.
