The Covington factory is a 24/7 high paced dynamic work environment employing 800 associates on site delivering ice cream to our consumers. We achieve success through collaborative cross functional teams leading the delivery of products to our supply chain. The site’s rich history dates to 2001 and fosters a deep passion for delighting consumers through the iconic ice cream brand names of Breyers, Klondike, Good Humor, Popsicle and Talenti. Who You Are & What You’ll Do

The Environmental Engineer is critical to achieving World Class Environmental performance, which means zero defects, zero waste and zero losses. She/he will apply extensively the full range of Focused Improvement methods and tools to counter site environmental losses identified across the site.


As the site Environmental Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering the factory results through the Focused Improvement methodology. Working directly with Production team members, site Technical Engineering, and all Unilever Manufacturing System (UMS) Pillars to act as the technical advisor and trainer providing coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of countermeasures.

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for site compliance in all environmental metrics at the local and state level.

Additionally, you will…

  • Deploy the company EHS strategy, policy and standards in the site to achieve world class sustainable results.
  • Drive environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls
  • Reduce the site’s environmental impact
  • Influence senior management and drive environmental leadership through line management.
  • Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national environmental legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies.
  • Advise line management in all incident investigations.
  • Conduct trend analysis from incidents, near misses and deep compliance audits.
  • Develop and deploy internal environmental auditing and inspection systems, participate in audits of other Unilever organizations as required.
  • Determine training needs and assist in delivery of training programs.
  • Lead environmental training and education of the site team.
  • Manage the 3rd party relationship of our internal Water-Water Treatment Plant and site relations with the local municipality waste-water leadership team.

Your line manager will be the Safety, Health and Environment Manager for the site who reports to the Factory Director.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • BA/BS degree preferred in Engineering or Environmental Science or similar experience. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Must demonstrate a flair for improvement engineering, digital enhancements, and technical knowledge with a passion for learning.
  • Attention to detail, bias for action, accountability, written and verbal communication skills, data collection and analysis, problem solving, decision-making, teamwork, and judgement.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work to support a 24/7 factory environment, donning all necessary Personal Protective Equipment. Essential functions include, but not limited to walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
