Division OverviewHubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Position Overview

Operate and manage the Wadsworth Test Laboratory, which includes a dozen laboratory technicians and engineers, and provides laboratory testing services to Hubbell business units and third-party customers. Testing areas include high-voltage, pulsed-power and environmental testing of electrical utility products.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct manager for up to a dozen laboratory technicians and engineers. Management responsibilities include personnel management, scheduling, training and development. Must be able to push continuous improvement in the laboratory, improving operations, encouraging teamwork, identifying areas for improvement and completing change.
  • Act as Laboratory Quality Manager and maintain laboratory accreditation to ISO 17025. The laboratory quality management system includes maintaining equipment maintenance / calibration records, test method validation, performing internal audits, and interfacing with external auditors from customers and our accreditation agency A2LA.
  • Review incoming test requests and interpret technical industry standards for test requirements and test methods. Schedule test requests with laboratory staff and review completed test reports for accuracy, consistency with test plans and approve reports for release.
  • Interface with external customers and Hubbell sales channels to create testing proposals for customer witness testing and third-party laboratory customers.
  • Assist technicians in performing product testing including setup, planning and reporting.
  • Plan for equipment maintenance, upgrades and replacement for existing lab equipment. Assist Sr. Laboratory Manager to define, initiate and manage capital equipment and automation projects.
  • Recommend new test methods and test equipment to support Hubbell and third-party test needs.
  • Provide guidance and consulting to Hubbell business unit engineers with respect to product testing. Attend and participate in industry product standards committee meetings.
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in electrical equipment manufacturing, electrical utility experience, or test laboratory operations.
  • Previous experience in product testing, electrical research, quality control, standards engineering and/or reliability engineering roles.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate complex topics often using teleconferencing tools, presentations and speaking in front of groups.
  • Must be a self starter with strong drive, initiative, and ability to work with limited management input.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, domestic and international.
