Background & Purpose of the Job

Unilever Procurement is embedded within the larger North American supply chain across the United States and Canada. This role will have a specific focus on the procurement for transportation services for the Unilever distribution network, with annual spend of approximately $0.5B across more than 100 suppliers including nearly all modes including parcel, less-than truckload, full truckload, intermodal, bulk, domestic ocean, and drayage.


This role will create value via a Total Cost of Ownership model while aligning to the Unilever Procurement strategies and North American Transportation Strategy, balancing the cost savings/avoidance and inflation mitigation expected of a procurement professional with the service expectations of the operations group as a key stakeholder. This role is also responsible for developing, maintaining, and growing supplier relationships management programs that address commercial and operational expectations. Areas of exploration include expanding intermodal utilization and dedicated fleets, exploring new technologies such as autonomous or electric vehicles and finally, bringing to life our sustainability initiatives.

This role will lead, direct, and coach direct reports serving as Procurement Analysts to achieve flexible goals for the department within the larger supply chain in addition to their career development ambitions. As a leader within Procurement, this role is visible to other leaders within the organization with heavy focus on Logistics, Customer Service, Finance as well as other key Supply Chain departments.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, preferably in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business.

  • 4+ of prior logistics and/or procurement experience, preferably in a Consumer-Packaged Goods company.

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced business environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability by managing numerous priorities concurrently; organizational and time-management abilities.

  • Advanced technical skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and PowerBi.

  • A strong command of the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to effectively interact with all levels of management.

  • Strong analytical aptitude with a validated ability to analyze/interpret data, with an emphasis on transportation cost modeling.

  • Proven abilities in stakeholder management, with an emphasis on listening and influencing.   

  • Experience working with enterprise level logistics systems, such as a Transportation Management System, Yard Management Systems, or Warehouse Management System is required.

  • Direct or indirect report management with demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and coachpeople.

  • Experience negotiating cost variables with transportation providers leading to successful outcomes.

  • Knowledge of the modes and key suppliers in the US transportation network.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business (MBA) or Supply Chain

  • ASCM/APICS certification in CLTD or CSCP

  • CSCMP SCPro certification

  • Formal negotiation training or experience

  • SAP, Oracle TMS, JDA WMS, Jaggaer contracting, and PINC YMS experience are preferred
