Controls and Automation Engineer (R-26824)
Background & Purpose of the Job
The Controls and Automation Engineer will be responsible for supporting the reliable and safe operation of factory controls. Responsibilities will include troubleshooting, implementing changes, driving to root cause of issues, implementing new tools using digital solutions and identifying improvements. This role will work closely with the Operations and Maintenance Teams for support of PLC and Control Logix programming, Servos, VFD and hardware. In addition, the Controls and Automation Engineer will work with the Engineering and Focused Improvement Teams to implement new digital tools using SQL, Power Apps and Power BI.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do
You're a born leader: Leads troubleshooting and root cause analysis of controls related losses in the process, packing and warehouse areas of the factory. Provides technical expertise and input into reliability issues for factory systems: PLC, HMI, variable speed control, servo-motion control, etc. to maximize plant efficiency and reliability. Provides leadership in the management of software modification and optimizing programming, and maintains all records
You're a change maker: Technical resource to the operations and maintenance teams to determine root causes of controls issues and implementation of changes.
You're a dot connector: Participates in factory improvement teams. Develops strong partnership with plant manufacturing, corporate engineering, and union workforce. Supports root cause analysis on electrical, instrumentation and control issues.
You're a culture and change champion: Develops creative solutions and implements new ways of working that incorporate digital tools.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 1-3 years of experience
- Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems. Software / PLC programming knowledge
- Experience leading a team of around 10 direct reports
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Rockwell PLC knowledge
- Process and packaging electrical hardware knowledge
- Servo and VFD knowledge
- SQL Database knowledge
- VMware virtual environment administration
- Power BI and Microsoft Flow Experience
