Job Summary
Director of Engineer in the video device SW Platform Engineering group (RDK-V) will oversee the engineering projects and product activities internally at comcast and across the video industry specially focusing on Smart TV. The individual will require a strong technical background in software development with deep knowledge of software stack for streaming devices, app eco-system, video streaming protocols and familiarity with US and European video standards as application to the Smart TV market. The role requires excellent communication skills and a customer focus approach to effectively manage internal and external partners across the globe and be able to lead a team of highly skilled engineers. The role requires ability to work closely with SoC vendors for TVs, TV OEM partners across the globe in validating and manufacturing TVs and sound knowledge of popular Smart TV OS such as Roku, Android, Tizen, FireTV etc. and lead the team to effectively compete in the Smart TV ecosystem. Must be able to work with cross-functional team members to identify tasks, drive development, and serve as technical interface to vendors, RDK community partners and open-source community to drive technology into our products. The ideal candidate would have 15+ years of proven track record in delivery execution and experience managing team distributed across the globe. Will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and executive oversight to all aspects of the Software Development and Engineering department's projects and activities. Develops and implements strategies and works with project personal to develop project standards and performance metrics. Works with Supervisors and Managers to ensure all applications meet project specifications and requirements. Provides leadership and direction for team which may include multiple functional areas. Core Responsibilities
Creates and drives strategies in alignment with the Company's overall vision and business goals.
Keeps current with technological developments within Smart TV stacks, ATSC / DTT and IP Video, web browser industry and App eco-system. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products and constantly strives to build best in class solutions for our customers.
Work closely with our TV OEM partners to validate the hardware during the manufacturing process and work to optimize the workflow
Works with project personnel to define standards and frameworks with regards to coding, programming and the general development of applications for multiple platforms.
Leads the Software Development and Engineering team in the development of new software and web applications and leads the continued support for existing applications and applications in development. Oversees implementation initiatives, software updates and the roll-out of new software releases.
Works with Supervisors and Managers to ensure all deliverables adhere to deadlines, specifications and budgets. Develops and implements performance metrics. Reviews and reports on project progress to leadership team.
Prepares and manages budget(s) and financial targets..
Provides technical leadership throughout the software life cycle process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures, and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior Engineers
Communicate with stakeholders including development teams, operations, product and Sr. Leadership as required
Continuously researches new techniques with respect to coding technology and coding practices. Works with the Engineering team to implement new techniques that benefit the goals of the organization.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

Desired Skills/Requirements:
At least 6 year's software development experience with a recent focus on browser platforms on embedded devices
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; Master’s degree in Computer Science preferred
Strong programming language skill in C/C++ in embedded environment.
Experience working closely with SoC vendors and manufacturing of TV boards.
Experience working with Video panels, peripheral input and output A/V devices a plus.
Good understanding of Webkit Browser, Media handling and App eco-system.
Experience with web video application development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Knowledge about FFMPEG, DASH-BMFF, HLS, MPEG2 TS and DRM such as PlayReady, Widevine etc is a plus
Well-versed and proficient with networking technologies and protocols
Proficient in Unix/Linux environments
Strong design and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Fast learner with a strong desire to learn
Team player comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment
