Our roles primarily reside inside or around one of our Tech Hubs (Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs, Denver, Austin, Silicon Valley, Washington DC/N. Virginia). Some roles can work virtual full-time if they are not near a Tech Hub, but that is dependent upon the needs of the position and amount of collaboration required.

Job Summary

Open source software is a crucial part of all modern engineering cultures. Comcast's technology strategy relies on a solid set of practices around open source, both in effectively using open source to achieve our goals and in making contributions back to the open source community. As the Senior Director of the Comcast OSPO, you'll evolve the practices we have in place to be good citizens of the open source community. As a part of the Comcast TPX DevX: Strategy team, you are a vital member of the Comcast Cable CTO's organization. Our team focuses on technology strategy, engineering culture, and developer experience. We drive technology invention and innovation that advances the state of the art and catalyzes growth opportunities for Comcast. We collaborate across TPX to define and accelerate Comcast's technology strategy, and we engage externally with a variety of partners and communities to co-create the future of technology. We are a diverse group of customer-centric, curious risk-takers, willing to disrupt ourselves and others and driven by a desire to create engineering excellence. You will lead a group of technical program managers in the Comcast OSPO. Your team focuses on all aspects of open source license compliance, strategies around Comcast's usage and engagement with open source, and methods to bring open source engineering practices into our engineering culture. Together, these actions will shape their path to broader adoption of open source in Comcast. They are an integral part of our technology and developer experience strategy. Your stakeholders are both internal and external. The Comcast OSPO has deep partnerships with our legal and security teams, and your responsibilities include cultivating and growing those relationships. Engineering teams across the Comcast landscape will look to you for guidance on effectively using open source software. You'll partner with the engineers and their leadership to manage contributions to cornerstone open source programs. As we achieve success in each area, you'll share those stories in the open source community to gather feedback and bolster Comcast's engineering brand.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities
  • Build open source license compliance into our engineering culture, using technology and process solutions where each is appropriate.
  • Cultivate a strong community inside Comcast around open source usage and being good open source community members.
  • Connect with cross functional teams including the legal and engineering to
  • Maintain Comcast’s external presence in the open source community through speaking engagements and involvement with open source foundations.
  • Champion the benefits of open source throughout Comcast.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, or similar field; or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience managing and leading a team
  • A deep understanding of the open source community's history, principles, and standard methodologies.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in open source license compliance, with an understanding of different open source license types and the ability to communicate to the engineering community the applicability of each.
  • 3+ years of experience establishing open source procedures for cloud-native engineering cultures.
  • Ability to engage effectively with partners at all levels, from executive stakeholders to engineers who are making open source contributions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to effectively communicate in large groups or meetings

Preferred Qualifications
  • A relationship to the open source community through participation in conferences or foundations.
  • Validated ability to lead large programs.
  • Proven success in building influence and positive relationships across a large organization with many cross-functional stakeholders.
