Sr. Director of Advocacy Communications
Job SummaryReporting to the Vice President of Public Relations, the Senior Director of Advocacy Communications partners with a very talented team of Communications & Government Affairs leaders to lead all aspects of the development and implementation of advocacy communication campaigns crafted to position Comcast as the local brand of choice in markets across our 12-state division.
Campaign Development: Messaging, Press, and Content
Developing and leading the communications strategies as well as tactics in support of market-specific advocacy goals, such as: earned media outreach and events, online advocacy, digital storytelling, influencer strategies and thought leadership.
Handling the tempo of specific advocacy communications efforts (e.g., support for broadband funding; network expansion opportunities; digital equity programs and partnerships) to keep and build momentum for maximum impact.
Understanding and supporting coalition efforts in partnership with Region, Division, as well as HQ Communications also Government Affairs Leaders – providing communications counsel, messaging, spokesperson prep and media relations support.
Partnering with Government Affairs, Communications, and Community Impact teams to identify as well as activate Comcast employees also advocates in support of our advocacy strategies.
Working with our in-house Creative Services, Production, and Owned Media teams to ensure the development of creative assets as well as digital content to support advocacy communications campaigns.
Strategy & Research
Using market research, polling, and focus groups/quantitative studies to help determine message strategies as well as target optimal audiences.
Developing creative communications strategies crafted to increase awareness of and strategic support for Comcast’s efforts as well as goals.
Providing strategic leadership and counsel for high-priority advocacy communications campaigns across four regions.
Leading the efforts of communications strategists and creative services professionals as key contributors to our campaigns of advocacy communications.
Determining appropriate tracking, measurements of success, and internal/external reporting.
Working closely with the Vice President of Public Relations in encouraging a positive, diverse. and collaborative culture across a geographically dispersed team.
Profile of the Successful Candidate
Comcast is seeking a groundbreaking leader with strong communications, media relations, and leadership experience to lead all aspects of the development as well as implementation of communications efforts aimed at engaging multiple audiences (media, policy leaders, elected officials, community partners, and employees) on the organization’s highest-priority issues.
More specifically, Comcast seeks an experienced professional who reflects the following:
Bachelor’s Degree required; concentration in communications, marketing, political science preferred; advanced degree is a plus.
Ten or more years of experience in for-profit, nonprofit, or political communications management, with an emphasis in advocacy and media; experience in leading and developing advocacy or political campaigns with a broad range of internal or external partners.
Track record of developing and implementing successful advocacy campaign plans. Experience setting strategy and goals, working with coalitions, press outreach, running public relations programs, writing and producing content, coordinating team efforts as well as leading also implementing outreach projects.
Outstanding interpersonal as well as leadership skills, with an understanding of the difference between leadership and management -- also the ability to exercise both.
The ability to make decisions in a dynamic environment, with an appreciation for how future needs may affect those decisions: a willingness to iterate a strategy and approach, with the ability to recognize the need to course-correct as vital.
The ability to work effectively with a broad range of diverse groups as evidenced by excellent listening and communication skills, balanced and reasoned approaches to problems, ability to inspire trust and confidence as well as flexibility also openness to differing points of view.
A persuasive oral and written communication style, rooted in keen interpersonal sensitivity as well as openness.
High tolerance for experimentation and the ability to learn from failure.
Outstanding organizational skills with demonstrated ability to maintain oversight of the range of communication activities.
