Sr. Lead Platform Engineer

We are seeking a Sr. Lead Platform Engineer who is passionate about growing and sustaining an innovative technology organization. This individual will be a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, inclusive, and iterative delivery environment within Capital One Commercial Technology group.

The ideal candidate will provide industry expertise on Network Proxy and Security concepts such as content filtering, connectivity, networking and cloud security. At Capital One, you’ll be part of a large group of builders, breakers, doers, and disruptors, who love to solve real problems and meet real customer needs. You will partner with product, development, project, engineering, and other architects to resolve and mitigate risks while addressing business requirements.

Responsibilities: 


  • Collaborate on enterprise level strategies, solutions and ongoing technology refreshes and enhancements.

  • Contribute to enterprise level design standards for internal and cloud hosted services.

  • Provide input on acquisitions, integrations and consolidation efforts specific to proxy services.

  • Be a technology integration point with other Capital One Engineering towers to provide strategic solutions.

  • Engage with various business groups to ensure integrated network strategies are incorporated early in the process. 


  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior personnel.

  • Ability to engage and influence team members as well as people external to the team

  • Ability to work as part of an Agile and/or DevOps team

  • Create and maintain proper documentation.

  • Work closely with other groups and teams such as InfoSec, Risk Management and ITO Delivery

  • Engage with industry/vendor forums and SME’s to define requirements of distributed hybrid cloud and datacenter environments.

  • Ability to clearly articulate and lead projects independently without supervision.

  • Lead projects and drive deliverables without active supervision. Provide timely updates to leadership on project statuses.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification

  • At least 2 years of People Leadership experience

  • At least 5 years of experience with proxy concepts and methodologies (network security capabilities: Cloud-based Web Proxy, Web Proxy, SSL Inspection and Network Access Control)

  • At least 5 years of experience with Blue Coat/Symantec (or technologies such as SG, SWG, CASB, MAA, Management Center, ThreatPulse, DLP)

  • At least 3 years of experience in network engineering

  • At least 3 years of experience with network security technologies (firewalls, web filtering, reporting)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience with People Leadership

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Technology

  • 2 years of experience in malware distribution, behavior and mitigation

  • 2+ years of experience in logging and reporting tools (Splunk, HPNA, or Purple Rain)

  • At least 1 year of experience in cloud proxy technologies: Sophos, Zscaler

  • At least 1 year experience in cloud based (AWS, GCP, Azure, OpenStack) concepts and techniques for securing them

  • 2+ years experience in technical design and implementation of IT projects

  • 1+ years of experience in one programming or scripting language: Python, Ruby, Java, PowerShell
